I'm struggling with the stomach bug which has come back but I have to go to work tomorrow. Cat no 9 disappeared for a couple of days and has just turned up with a knackered claw and knuckle on his back foot; can't really see what's going on because he's so black but the claw and knuckle are at a funny angle. It doesn't seem to be bothering him and he can walk and jump, but DH will take him to the vet tomorrow to get it sorted. Fortunately he's insured if it's very expensive - they'll probably have to knock him out, but as I've fortunately got ahead of myself with cc bills this month, I can if necessary use the £320 I'd set aside for double payments at the end of the month. I seem to recall the vet will deal directly with the insurer if the estimated cost is over £300 or so, so we'll see. Poor boy. We'll probably have to keep him in for a few days which won't please him - he's an outside boy except at mealtimes. But at least we're covered one way or another financially for the treatment."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Thanks - I'm back to normal. The vet's estimate was £400-500 as they needed to knock him out and x-ray his foot to see if it was broken; just waiting for a call back. He's in excellent health otherwise with great teeth, except for a deformed rib where the cartilage has grown outwards from birth. Best outcome is that they stitch up the toe and bandage it. He scoffs his food so quickly he won't notice if we hide antibiotics in there. They'll deal directly with the insurer so all we'll need to pay is the excess (think it's something like £50) so could be a lot worse. Thank goodness for insurance - I know I moan about paying £130/month for them all but it's worth it when something like this comes out of the blue. We've had vet bills go into the thousands before.
Just got to get through tomorrow and then I have 2 weeks off - yay!"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
Just priced up £130 of CDs and DVDs for musicmagpie - that'll go towards a debt AND declutter the place. Now I just have to find a large enough box ..."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Not impressed - we waited 2 and a half hours for a call back to let us know how he was, and in the end DH drove up there to try and get an answer. They had the temerity to get stroppy and moan that they were busy. The vet allegedly has no record of us having insurance, despite dealing directly with our insurers for 13 years, so their computer system is rubbish. DH has had to pay £75 just to collect the cat and we have to take the policy in in 2 days when he goes for a check-up.
Anyway, £453, and no broken bones."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
Hoorah - off work now for 2 weeks! Haven't had 2 holiday weeks off in 18 months. Lots of stuff planned but intend to rest and recharge as well, as will be starting studying when I get back."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Hoping for a NSD today. Taking cat to the vets to get the dressing checked - that shouldn't cost as we have the insurance in place and we're waiting for the claim form requested yesterday. Wedding reception this evening - don't want to go but it's DH's colleague so can't really get out of it. A bit of decluttering and possibly baking this afternoon.
I did research ticket prices for Helen Mirren's new play The Audience at the Gielgud, but I can't justify £50 for a grand circle seat, let alone £75 for a stall seat. I'd love to see it but will have to pass. I already gave myself a new year entertainment treat by booking to see Walking With Dinosaurs next Wednesday. Shame the theatre is so expensive - maybe they'll make the play into a film.
Had our final takeaway of the year last night as a treat. On to a frugal January!"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -

Shopping today. Costco for catfood and crisps; Sainsburys for cat litter & general stuff. Planning to use my £25 Nectar points balance in Sainsburys, and it'll end up cheaper than if I go to Lidl for the general shop instead. January is double payment month for Amex and Barclaycard while at the same time reducing my overdraft by as much possible, so very frugal. If I can find a large enough box or boxes somewhere, I can get the CDs and DVDs ready for musicmagpie to collect next week. That £130 or so will come in handy.
Fortunately I'll only be in work for 9 days before next payday; I just don't spend money when I'm at home except on the odd bit of milk and bread, and I'm intending to spend the next fortnight decluttering and cleaning. The pantry (cupboard under the stairs) is knee-deep in random plastic bag again - I never seem to get on top of that."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
