Sky HD wireless

Hi

I am looking to connect my Sky HD box to get On demand and want to connect via wireless. Sky are looking £21.95 and will not play ball on a deal,is there any other cheaper way to connect apart from Ethernet cable?

  • In a word NO.

Unless you can connect via Ethernet, then you will require a Sky wireless adapter.

................ Or a pair of homeplugs, but these will cost more that the wireless box.

Quite a bit more. My Develo 500 Homeplug set up (which admittedly covers three rooms and seven different devices) cost me £180!

They do work very well indeed though...

User "hardtimes' might take consolation in the fact that Sky used to charge £60 for their Wireless connector, but it's hardly surprising that they won't offer a "deal" on the current price of £21.95.

It was only £9.99 a few weeks ago

Amazon have the older 85Mb Devolo ones for £28/pair.
They worked OK when I was trialling a YouView box.

I got one of the old wireless connectors free when I upgraded to a One terror bite box, sometimes its down to whether you get on with the Sky agent.

  • There are a few WiFi Bridges on Ebay which convert your HD box to wireless. Can't comment if they are any good though.

theres no need to pay that sort of money to hook up a sky box
admittedly not less than £22 though.
TP link ones can be had for under £30 usually for a pair to get up and running
  • £21.95 one off payment good value IMHO works fantastically and simples to set up!

If I get one of these boxes will it affect the strength of the wifi signal to other devices used in the same room.

Our router is 30 feet away in another room and the wifi signal on laptop and Ipad is quite weak so if I buy this box will it get worse?

As I said earlier, the Sky box is only one of seven devices across three rooms that are now connected to the internet with my Homeplug set up.
Develo also produce far cheaper Homeplugs which should be adequate for lesser needs than mine.
