Wearing shorts to primary school in this weather?

Surely it is too cold for a child to be wearing shorts in this weather?
I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts as to why someone might do this.
Maybe it's their school uniform? At the school my daughter attends, the younger boys (primary/pre-prep/junior age) all wear shorts. It was the same at my last school too - which was in Scotland, where it actually snows.0 -

Has it been cold where you are? Its been so mild here for the last week I've not had a coat on, so I personally would be okay seeing someone walk to school with shorts and socks on.0 -
ds would wear shorts if he could get away with it, therefore they've been hidden away until it warms up again!0

Probably wasn't clear in my post that it was three different children I have seen, rather than the same child three times.
All good points made, though. Thanks.
it sounds like its the school uniform then - and its still not cold enough (in my opinion) to make everyone wear trousers instead of shorts and socks.0 -
It's not cold here, plus kids tend not to feel the cold like adults do.0

Shorts were mandatory for boys at my OH's school regardless of the weather. He used to wear trousers to walk to school and change just before he got to the school gates (although technically this wasn't allowed, and he would have got into trouble if anyone saw him).Mortgage when started: £330,995

My son wears shorts all year round and will do till secondary school. He doesn't felt the cold at all, today he has a thin shirt and a blazer on and shorts and was warm as anything on way to school at 7 am. Maybe he is warm blooded ;-p0

That's why the OH jokes about having more pairs of shorts than long trousers because his mum never bought him full length ones until he went to secondary school, he never knew any different. Kids are tougher than they look!Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

As others have said maybe he doesn't feel the cold and prefers the shorts.
Maybe his trousers got dirty so he had to wear shorts.
Maybe he hasn't got any trousers.0 -

Obviously in that case the shorts would be valid school uniform, but I think I'd send my child in tracksuit bottoms or something (with a note to their teacher to explain) rather than shorts.0
