Wearing shorts to primary school in this weather?

Options
Today is now the third time in a fortnight that I have seen a boy at our local primary school wearing shorts.

Surely it is too cold for a child to be wearing shorts in this weather?

I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts as to why someone might do this.

My son won't wear a jumper, or jacket, just a polo shirt. I tell him more fool him if he gets cold but it's his choice because he'll only take it off and inevitably lose it when he gets round the corner.

I know some children with ASD can have preferences for certain clothes, particularly those that don't constrict them.
  • Was going to mention asd, my youngest dd is a nightmare with any clothes and there has been many a time she has gone to nursery in clothes that are really unsuitable for the weather! Perhaps other mums are talking about me :p

    Perhaps they're his fave?

Maybe he keeps putting holes in the knees of his trousers?

    How long are his socks?

Maybe he's not cold. I'm not! When I go to work I still wear a summer skirt or thin work trousers, and a thin top. I leave the house around 0630 in a summer skirt and I don't care what people think. I get SO hot indoors, even when it's cold outside.

I'm sitting here at the moment, it's 8 degrees outside, I don't have the heating on. I'm wearing a strappy summer top and a thin pair of tracky bottoms, no socks. I might put a cardi on later if the temperature drops. :)

I see people wandering around with huge Winter coats, woolly tights, boots, jumpers, and I have no idea how they're not burning up - but, of course, we're all different. :)
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

    Maybe because he wants to?

Is he planning on a career in the Post Office perhaps?

When my now 6 year old was in reception he wore his shorts well into October, even then it was a hassle to get him back into trousers. There were one or two others who stayed longer in their shorts than mine did, possibly into November too. I notice some of the elder children are still in their shorts even now.

I wouldn't worry, some kids just don't feel the cold.

    Happy moneysaving all.

I think it was Sunday morning with the ice not long having melted on the cars outside, I told my nearly 6 year old to go and get dressed as we were going out, only to find him coming back down wearing shorts. He refuses to wear a coat and far prefers shorts so given a choice (we've hidden them so he can't) he'd put his school shorts on rather than school trousers. Trouble is one of his godparents wears shorts all year round so he kind of has a role model!

Absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. Was he shivering and blue with cold? No different to girls going to school in a school skirt and socks. Years ago boys wore shorts all year round till they went to work!

Normal sock-length. I.e. not enough to keep your legs warm!

Probably wasn't clear in my post that it was three different children I have seen, rather than the same child three times.

All good points made, though. Thanks.
