Just been to the vets with splat for her post operative check!

They are very happy with her wound site, and don't want to see her again! Still want her to keep the cone on for a further 7 days though :( I asked why that was as they are inverted stitches she said they are external and she could pull at them and cause herself further problems!

Splat is getting very frustrated at being unable to groom herself, especially her rear end :( she's getting horrible down there and me and my OH have both tried to clean her up but she won't let us!! The vet just cut out some for us(through the hissing scratching and kitty squirming-i don't know how she did it!!) as she could see what I was talking about, but what can I do? I've been running a Brush through her fur to help her out as obviously when she is trying to groom she is doing the movements but licking the cone! What can we do about her rear end if she won't let us near her to help her? I feel terrible about it cos I know it upsetting splat, and it's all my fault for putting her in for the surgery :(

how about taking the cone off for short periods of time so she can groom herself?

then watch to see if she worries at the wound.

Part of the Furniture I've been Money Tipped!
What about taking the cone off next time you see her trying to groom herself? As long as you stay with her and watch her, she won't get the chance to have a go at the stitches.

Poor Splat, but don't feel guilty for having her spayed. Far better she was spayed than not  and she'll have forgotten about the cone once it's removed for good :)

oops, sorry scaredy_cat, hadn't noticed your post suggesting the same thing :D

The cone is partly to stop the cat licking (and infecting) the skin around the stitches, not just to stop them pulling them off. Lots of bacteria in the saliva.

Zara has a cone on too, I take it off when I am in the room with her as a cone and a crate is a nightmare...

She never tries to get to the stitches but in a bit the skin will start healing it it itches - that is when they try to lick and I really do not want any infection to deal with....

There are "comfy collars" you can get, easier to wear than a cone:

    Like those:

TYpe "comfy collar cat" and some sites will come up - on amazon too.
  • Thanks for all your replies :)

Since typing my last post suddenly she relaxed n doesn't seem bothered by the cone at all!

So I've not taken it off, Ive bought a better brush and being helping her as much as she will let me! It can come off on Saturday, so just a few more days!

    My poor baby soundo!

  • Bet she's running riot around the place again.

  • She's doing very well! Thank you for asking!

She was so glad to have that cone off! She's a changed kitty since her op, much more laid back etc and....i got my cuddly little girl back cos before the op she would only be cuddly when one of us was here where as now she is anytime its great!

We were decorating at the weekend and Splat decided to fall asleep sitting up, I will post that pic up tomorrow lol
