    Awww poor Splat.:(

10 days with a cone on.

Winnie didnt have one at all and she had normal stitches (non-dissolving bright green ones). Perhaps he'll say it can come off when you see him on Saturday.

i must admit i took the cone off my Giz when he was castrated, but he didn't bother his wound too much, and i would tap him when he was, then stroke him to take his mind off it.

Splat has dissolving stitches so don't know why she has the cone really!

She's settled down and been sleeping in between me n OH on the sofa for the last hour n a bit bless her! Worried about leaving her over night though :/

I am hoping they say on Saturday we can take the cone off cos she really don't like it but if its better for her wound to heal that it's on then she will have to get used to it!

She has eaten two boiled chicken mini fillets and doesn't seem bothered about eating anymore at the moment, do you think it's too soon for her stomach to put her dry food down for during the night as her little stomach might not take too well to it or will she be ok with it?

  • Never, ever heard of a cat having a cone on for spay (or castrate), dumbfounded to be honest. The cynical part of me wonders if it means the vet can charge more because you have to pay for the cone?

Have the stitches got loose ends showing, or are they inverted?

Vets normally do recommend smaller meals for the first night, and I think she'll be well happy having had chicken!

Given how simple a spay is, the cat is going to be more traumatised by the cone than the op.

  • the castration was £57 which i got 10% off because i am on their health plan. i also had her micro chipped whislt she was under. no extra cost for either the collar or the cone.

there are no loose ends on the stitches and just look like a cross n yes inverted

ill leave her til tomorrow for more food then, ill also give the vets a ring in the morning about the collar cos i think its a bit ott tbh

  • if the stitches are inverted then, makes me wonder even more why they want the poor cat to wear a cone.

We only ever had 2 cats pull out stitches, in the days before the vets did the stitches inverted. Since then, well over 10,000 done, and not a single problem!

I wish all cats were microchipped like Splatt now is- I hope she never goes missing, but if she does it'll increase the chances hugely of getting her back.

  • What a night! More for my OH than me as the tablets I'm on knocke out!

My OH was up til 3am with splat last night n he had to get up for work at 5.30 bless him :( splat was so agitated by the collar last night it took hours to settle her! She soon settled for the night!

6am this morning my clever girl took the cone off -4 times!!! I managed to get it back on and done it tighter, obviously not too tight!

She seems to have got used to it now, she has eaten with no problem and used her litter tray so fingers crossed the next 9 days speed up!

Splat has become soooo clingy to me though not that I'm complainin! Right now she's laid across my boobs so I can't do anything apart from tap this out on my phone! Lol you can just imagine her laid here n how my heads pushed out cos of the cone lol

  • Mine had to wear the cone (just the females). They needed it too. They had dissolvable stitches but whenever they got the cone off they'd start pulling them. One got an infection and had to go back :(

When splat got hers off straight away she went to the incision site!

Your post has convinced me to keep the cone on her, it's for the best for her in the end :)
