No its because they have no space - all open plan and only the managers room is private.

No ones ni number, employment record, criminal record should be talked about with 50 people listening. I was almost on this blokes lap I was so close!

I'll be due to the psychology of open plan as Donna states plus the fact that they probably didn't expect the over crowding as also indicated.

It is more likely that the design plan and decisions are simply down to costs as they are tenants!

All office space is usually an empty open plan shell when rented, the tenant has to pay to divide that space as they see fit and at the end of the tenancy strip all that out again before leaving.

Depends on the building more than anything to the cost of partitioning and what already exists in them as permanent fixtures/rooms.

Use to do office moves and also cabling for voice n data so have sat in quite a few project meetings on the above subject.

Anyone else having problems with the site? I tried to log in as usual and was told I'd entered an incorrect password, I hadn't and tried again a couple of times. Still wasn't working so requested a new password which also doesn't seem to work!!!

You've gotta love this site. It states in the email containing the second part of your password, they display half on screen and email you the rest, that if you're still having problems to ring the relevant department for help. Only one problem, looking at the help section there is no phone number for UJM just an email address. Guess I'll be emailing them and 'venting'.

Been there and done that, after emailing them they will tell you how to fix it ready
Create a new account <this is their fix
you'll need to use a different email address to the one previously used.
the account you had will not be unlocked.
better idea i'll copy the email they sent me when i "typed in the wrong userid password.
small note: you get 3 tries before it gets locked.

copy and paste of the email i got:
You recently contacted Universal Jobmatch about your Government Gateway / Universal Jobmatch account.
The instructions attached to the bottom of this email will help you to solve the problem you reported to the Universal Jobmatch helpdesk.
In some cases you may have been in contact with the service by a different route and had an answer to your question. You may still find the attachment helpful as well as the advice you have already received.
To solve the problem that you reported is complicated, so you will receive a second email within the next three weeks telling you what to do next.
You can ignore the second email if you have already had your problem sorted, either before receiving today's email or because you have followed the instructions attached to today's email.
This email, and the second email you will receive in the next few weeks, form part of an automatic process introduced to solve the problem you reported
Please do not report this problem again until you have received the second email and followed the instructions contained in it.
Should you then still have a problem with your account please use the Contact Us process shown at the bottom of this email.
Please DO NOT reply to this email as it is from an unmonitored outgoing email address.

Universal Jobmatch Helpdesk (A DWP Service)
now for the copy paste of the pdf file
You recently contacted the Universal Jobmatch Helpdesk regarding your Government
    Gateway / Universal Jobmatch account.
    You told us:
You have a user id and password problem which is preventing you from getting in to the
account you set up on Universal Jobmatch.
The following instructions will help you to correct this.
    Start here:
The Universal Jobmatch service uses your email address as part of the secure verification process
and will not allow it to be reused. Therefore the service will not allow you to set up a new account
using an email address that has been used before in Universal Jobmatch.
The Universal Jobmatch service has recognised that this may cause problems for some people.
The service now runs a regular ‘fix’ within three weeks of this mail that clears the email addresses
of people like you who have told us they cannot get into the service. All people who have reported
this problem will receive an email notificationadvising when the ‘fix’ is about to take place. If you
have taken option one below you can ignore that email notification.
    You now have two choices:
    One:
If you have a different email addressavailable, or can set up a different email address, you
may setup a new user id on the service now by starting the new registration process again.
Your new account on Universal Jobmatch must use this different email address.
When you have created your new account you can ignore the email notificationdescribed above.
(Please note: The DWP cannot advise you on creating a new different email addressas there
are numerous providers on the internet that can assist you with this).
    Two:
You can continue using the service using the standard jobsearch which does not need you to log in
    to your account.
When you receive the email notificationdescribed above you can set up a new user id on the
service by starting the registration process again and reuse your existing email address.
When you set up your new account it is important that you look for the verification email
from gateway.confirmation@gateway.gov.ukin your email account (check your spam
folders too) and take the option to verify your email. This will allow you to recover your user
id or reset your password in the future.

no i was talking from the advisers perspective.

Managers are the worse. Tony Paul, havant jobcentre before Andy brown took over.
my mum was with me at the time, as loosing my benefits also affects hers, and she wanted to discuss with them.
Cut a long story short, Tony paul manager wanted a private word with me in a office room, to say he was in my face would be an understatement, just a good thing i didnt sneeze or I would have headbutted him, well he was 5-6inches from my face with his.

After leaving the room and leaving the jobcentre my mum said "I thought he was going to hit you"
I wont put down here what her first impression of him was, first time she met him. I cant use the 2nd word but the first was arrogant
2nd word is A child born to unmarried parents. begins with a B

After a few months of laying low, I thought I might check out the UJM of which you all speak - and - my God!!!!
    It's an abysmal mess!

Leaving aside the issues regarding being forced to log in, allow access etc etc (as I have not looked into that side of it too much), I simply cannot believe that this is condsidered the main portal that people looking for jobs are expected (forced, even?) to use.
Then of course there is the issue of what some of the "jobs" actually are and what the companies/employers are getting away with in these dreadful times.

I for one am not particularly happy to submit a CV - and letter, I assume - for a job when I don't actually know what - or where, it would seem mostly - the organisation is for God' sake.

What kind of approach is that? How can a letter be tailored - the the employer, not just the job? What if it's an ex-employer? I am shaking my head in sadness to see what the "job market" (or at least , this aspect of it) has become.

One position I saw was for a Trainee Pharmacy Tech (Apprenticeship) which would pay £3.00 an hour for a 30-40 hour week and was for a two-year (NVQ) programme. This rules out swathes of society and is, as far as I am concerned, taking the pee to the nth degree.

    It makes me sick.
    And very very worried.

    :(

I agree I got my current role through there and applied for a job at 1.30 today and got a call to arrange an interview at 2.00 (and that was the company calling not an agency)

I actually managed to get into my account by the replacement password route..... after requesting at least ten!!! Then realised when it came to changing my password I'd require the new one before I could change it to something more memorable and hadn't botheres to make a note of it so had to go thorugh it all over again.

    People seem to confuse various issues here;

The new Gateway system, is just corrupt, if you read the terms and conditions, you wouldn't sign up, it's a license to hack your computer, and see every activity you do, even when not logged onto the site.

Plus all the corrupt jobs listed there, as posted previously.

Signing onto this new system is problematic, due to you clicking "DO NOT CONTACT ME", because the site does, and there seems no way to remove that. Even a deep clean of the computer, and I'm a computer engineer.

There seems some confusion, when the DSS sends people to search for jobs 40 hours a week, this is very common, and often includes sending people to work in shops, ie the recent case of a person sent to work in Poundland; I was sent to work in a charity shop, alongside criminals on remand, doing their time, so how am I classed as a criminal that has been sent there by a judge, but I am unable to look for a job? Because I'm working 40 hours a week? For free.

People that are affected by this, the lower classes, as others ill afford some others, WRITE to your MP.

If I bought some food, and it's bad, I complain. If I get good food, I commend them, usually I receive free money, and just so; when I complain to my MP, I receive a confused, and random reply, that doesn't go anywhere, and leads to confusion....

But if you don't like something - COMPLAIN ! Many times, you might get money off, but to an MP, they might take your money in expenses lol!

But what many people do not recognise is; their comments ARE being logged by DSS, and their comments are logged.

    - on the JSA / Poundland issue, as usual MSE is miles behind, their latest is here

    - this however is the latest 'snake' trick by politicians - read the whole article by clicking on the blue writing

"""The Department for Work and Pensions has introduced emergency legislation to reverse the outcome of a court of appeal decision and "protect the national economy" from a £130m payout to jobseekers deemed to have been unlawfully punished.

The retroactive legislation, published on Thursday evening and expected to be rushed through parliament on Tuesday, will effectively strike down a decision by three senior judges and deny benefit claimants an average payout of between £530 and £570 each.

Last month the court of appeal ruled that science graduate Cait Reilly and fellow complainant and unemployed lorry driver Jamieson Wilson had been unlawfully made to work unpaid for organisations including Poundland because the DWP had not given jobseekers enough legal information about what they were being made to do.

The ruling meant that hundreds of thousands of jobseekers who had been financially penalised for falling foul of the half a dozen employment schemes, including the government's flagship Work Programme, would have been entitled to a full rebate if a final government appeal was rejected by the supreme court."""
