So they can monitor what you've done on their site, nothing more. If they have your log in details they'll just be logging on like you would and see your history that way. That doesn't then mean they can go on and look at all your other web movements. They would need your computer in order to do that.
I never said they can see what's on your computer at home.

What about them maybe applying for a job on your behalf without you knowing maybe?

But what about cookies? To use the site you have to accept them

But what about cookies? To use the site you have to accpet them

Internet cookies are small pieces of information in text format that are downloaded to your computer when you visit many Web sites. The cookie may come from the Web site itself or from the providers of the advertising banners or other graphics that make up a Web page. Thus visiting a single Web site can actually result in the downloading of multiple cookies, each from a different source. You may never actually visit a page of one of the major advertising agencies like Doubleclick.com but you will still get cookies from them. Cookies typically contain some kind of ID number, a domain that the cookie is valid for, and an expiration date. They may also contain other tracking information such as login names and pages visited. Since they are in text format, they can be read with a regular text editor such as Notepad although the contents may not necessarily seem to make a lot of sense.

I'm sorry, but this is hard work. I can't make it any clearer. They cannot monitor your entire internet usage without access to your computer. They will only be able to monitor your activity on the Jobmatch site.

The whole thing with cookies is right there in the first sentence of what you've posted. They are pieces of information DOWNLOADED TO YOUR COMPUTER. Ergo cookies mean nothing unless they have your actual computer.

And I didn't say you said they can see what's on your computer at home. Others suggested it so my original post on the subject was aimed at them.

Why do they want peoples ID and log in then?

Why then do they say you do not need to write the jobs down you apply for? How are they going to know you have applied? Because they are going to have access to your acct and can flag up jobs for you to apply for too.
They want to be certain people have registered and may be able to check these account details to confirm you have registered if they have to.

It links you to the account.

Then they may be able to look at your account activity/job applications, even though they shouldn't if you didn't give permission. It's only a tick box saying they shouldn't do it.

Just out of interest for anyone on here who has signed up with a CV and profile on there, can you answer this.

If you have applied for a job via the site how have you done so? Is there an applicaiton to attach a cv and cover letter and it magically goes down the line to them like on Reed or Jobsite etc or do you still have to find the contact details and send a regular email?

good question! I'd like to know that too!

this is the main concern for me:
In the privacy terms where it states your information submitted could be passed on to other third parties is enough to put me off ever signing up!

Either way.. I doubt the unemployment rate is down to the old website... more a lack of jobs due to business's going into administration most of all caused by cost of being in the UK???

Applied for a couple today. both of which were e-mail CV/covering letter to the employer direct. didn't add the jobs to job basket (is it still on there??) so the site wouldn't have been able to pick up whether I'd applied for them

You have set up an account on this new site?

Does it say why you need an account then if you are just sending emails as per the advert that we can all see?

It wouldn't be legal, it would be very hacky and I don't want to make you paranoid, but yes they could. I won't explain how as it not ethical. I'm not saying it is easy, or obvious, but any website can do this if they really wanted to.

The easier way to avoid this happening would be to have a browser that is only used for Universal Job Match and making sure the cookies etc are cleared very regularly. Or better yet, not sign up in the first place.

Yeah got an account, am applying for jobs, don't give a stuff that the JC staff might be able to see what I'm applying for (never had any problem with them TBH, they see I'm applying for work (suitable) think the longest I've been in the JC was about 5 mins). CV is uploaded on there (just like it is on several other jobsites) but it's the 'good' CV (lots of Army career stuff) as opposed to the 'dumbed down' ones I'm using for applying for other jobs (after all a job delivering milk to schools hardly needs an ex intelligence operator, SNCO and linguist in the Army with tons of management experience). Don't know about all the jobs on there but the 2 I applied for today were just e-mail off.

P.S. anyone up in the Manchester area Carole Nash are after call centre workers (got phone interview tomorrow)

So how are you going to prove you have applied to them then if they are by email?

Isn't the point of the site that you apply via the site?

Just like say Totaljobs - if ti says apply by email only to so and so .com I copy the advert and the link and email it to myself so I know what the job was if I get an email back or a call etc. With nothing being stored on your acct there on this new site how are you going to prove you have applied.

I do not see what they are trying to achieve by having a new site like this.

I would like to know where you think they'd have the money or resources to do this?
Have you ever been into the job centre? They can't afford proper paper or even computers manufactured past 2003
