Can I ask a thick question? Say someone is already in a job but they hate it. They want to look for another job. Now in the old days anybody could go in and look at all the jobs available and apply. Now does that mean they are excluded from doing this?

No you can still job search without registering.
  • Well.. I've been searching around for information that would help out other people who have concerns over the new Universal Jobmatch.

    - Security -
If you do not wish your confidential details to held on government server's and possibly passed on to third parties then DO NOT SIGN UP - it's in the privacy statement on the new site. They do not say "who" these third parties are. For all I know they could be called centers that ring you up all the time. But could potentially be something far worse. The servers in question are also run in the U.S (my question is.. why the U.S?)

another is the potential for hackers. -

We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.*

scrolling through the long list of comments - it's there.about half way down the page.

seeing how it's someway connected with monster which has been hacked I don't want anything to do with it. As anybody would react the same way. Don't leave yourself to be an easy target.

here is a discussion on another forum too

like the last comment on the last page of the link above. if you agreed in your jobseekers agreement to search "direct.gov.uk" your agreeing to search that website, that website which no longer exists and has been replaced with "gov.uk/jobs-jobsearch"

The fact that this subject has caused so much confusion and worry is alarming! searching universal jobmatch via any mainstream search engine results in a LOT of causes for concern type blogs and the like.

Ah yes we signed a job seekers argeement but no where on it does it say we have given permission for them to access our accounts as this was not the case 6 mths or a year ago so they will have to issue new ones? What about the people on the work programme which is different I wonder.

I have heard that they want 1.2 million jobseekers to be registered and using the site by August 2013. They are not going to be able to get those figures without making it mandatory.

My understand is they can not use the site as they seem to be wanting to, to check up on claimants, without a change in the law.
Completely unrealistic ideas from a clueless desperate government.

You can't monitor people in their own homes on their own/external internet access & private job applications.
  • The search engine is terrible. I live in Leicester and if I fill in all the options the only jobs I get shown are out of Leicester (there's a lot in Coventry!). The only way I can get it to work is by leaving all the options blank except for the postcode and then I have to trawl through every single job that's posted.

I signed up for it before I realised all the pitfalls and am now panicking! I'm on the work programme and neither the work programme or the job centre have mentioned anything about it. I only know about it from logging on to job search.

Thats true.. at the time of signing the agreement, you did not agree for the DWP or JCP to give out your information to third parties etc.

Cookies.. Tracking cookies monitor the websites you visit whilst's your still on the net. Cleaning them out is easy enough.

    here's a video!

(add the W at the start of the link)

The other factor is.. they have said it will be monitored, fair enough. what they have not said is"what" they are monitoring. your search habits ? the websites you've recently visited (if you haven't cleared your cookies) such as paypal/ebay and so on...

How on earth would they manage to look at every single place you've been online? You sign up, they ask for your log in details for the site and they monitor what you've looked at. I don't agree with that and think it's nothing short of b******s.

But the suggestion that they could look at every single website you've looked at is nothing short of absurd surely. To do that wouldn't they have to have access to your actual computer?

You can view the site without registering, or you can register and use the site in a similar way to reed/monster/indeed etc. The DWP/JC won't bother you as you aren't claiming JSA.
  • Been told by my provider that while their own portal (Ingeus) wasn't monitored, it was entirely different case in regards to Universal Job Match.

It would be nice to know what exactly Universal Job Match monitors. Is it just simply the website when your logged in and looking for work, which I've got no problem with but if its monitoring my complete Internet usage than I do have a problem.

Next it'll be installing tiny software applications on our PCs and chipping us for when we go out. :-)

As I signed last Friday was given the leaflet and told a bit about it but my adviser said I won't give u any job searches as I know your doing the mandatory work programme for the next few weeks.Am I expected to do both .
