Wee rant about Wetherspoons and proof of age!

i went with my family + other relatives for a night out at weatherspoons. My nan (65ish) got told to buy a jug of blue lagoon and a glass of port, which were to be mixed together. The manager saw us do this and threatened to chuck my nan out if she did this again on the basis that you cannot mix drinks. i had to ask what was in blue lagoon (wkd and vodka)..and yes she could see that this was also a mixed drinkSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

I used to have to carry around my passport everywhere as many places only accept that and driving licence as ID. Wetherspoons bouncers have always been very rude and when I showed them my Citizencard once they told me I could have just ordered it from the back of FHM.
They just need more education on this, as do all the staff. It's inconvenient (and stupid) to carry a passport around with you all the time - I caved in the end and got a provisional driving licence which stays in my wallet, but this isn't ideal. The whole point of the Citizencard is to prove your identity + age.0 -
Our local wetherspoons is a bit funny about id too.... My mate is going out with a girl whos 19, and looks it. A couple of weeks ago, they ID' her when she went to get a drink, she didnt have anything on her so they wouldnt serve her (fair enough, she wasnt too bothered...) However, they then wouldnt serve ANY of us on our table. Im 32 for god sake, I really dont need to be not allowed to buy myself a drink anymore...
They probably refused all of you service because they felt there was a risk of someone possibly passing her an alcoholic drink within the group. It's been done before!:EasterBun

Yes, a cocktail is a mixed drink - but the components are measured so that it equals the amount of a sensible a.b.v. The problem with adding more alcohol (yes, even Port!) is that it bumps up the a.b.v. and creates quite a potent mix, with which to get drunk even quicker. Thats why a lot of pubs now won't serve things like Guinness and cider, lager and bitter, etc.:EasterBun
