They are extremely strict. I was down visiting family last summer. I was with an American 20 year old and she got asked (fair enough). She showed her US driving licence and college ID card and what a hassle there was before they accepted it.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090 -

There are definitely some bad fake ID cards out there, but staff can be trained very easily to spot the difference very fast! I've been to national conferences on ID and PASS cards and have the facts on forgeries, sadly the pub don't seem to want to listen to that.
And nobody would get a fine if they had acted with due diligence and checked ID, and were able to be satisfied that the ID shown was reasonable.
Wish they'd ask me to prove my age too but sadly nobody has for ages!
Really? i should think any kind of ID that's out there has been forged. maybe they aint been caught yet but there's no way you can say there's never been a copy made. "confrence" or not.
What job do you do BTW? if you get to go them typea place's you should maybe think about buying him a passport or provisonal. they aint that much. you could pay for it if you didnt go out as much.....If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -

Exactly - I don't think it would be that difficult to make a fake "PASS" card if you had the equipment - OK it would not be exact but it'd be convincing enough.
Some people do have the equipment - there's companies that you can buy fake ID from on the Internet ("novelty" ID - does not resemble real ID at all so is not illegal, but you could use the equipment to make fake "PASS" cards when you see the quality that they can output)0 -
The PASS logo is extremely complex and almost impossible - and very expensive - to forge. There are no known attempted forgeries of the card on a national level. I have this information direct from the Chair of the PASS scheme and the Chief Executive of Citizencard. I also work as a Trading Standards Officer so do a lot of work in this area, as well as enforcing the Trade Marks Act, so I would know if there were fake cards out there.
We go out about twice a month, and not for long, since I am in a lot of debt from a previous very bad relationship some years ago. So it's not like I can save up for a passport for him, anyway why should I?0 -
On this note one of my friends used to have a fake driving liscence when we were younger. God it was realistic! But he would never tell us where he got it from. It got accepted everywhere! He never got turned down, we couldnt believe it!Green and White Barmy Army!0

I'm sorry, but that comment up there ^^ just really tee'd me off.
What business is of yours why her fiancee can't afford a passport or driving licence?
Also since when has it been mandatory to travel abroad? I'm pretty sure he's aware of that fact that he would need a passport should he ever wish to travel overseas
And since when has it been manditory to go to the pub - or that pub to serve you for that matter as they have the right to refuse service to anyone, id or not?0 -
A licensee is not obliged to seve anyone. they can refuse to serve anyone they like, even if they have correct IDBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

I realise that, I just feel that it's crap customer service and a bad attitude - especially since I have always been a regular customer of theirs (until now).0
