I think I'm sorted now.
It seems that 4S IT has been less than perfect recently. The sync. function was down for a couple of days when I tried last week and logging on yesterday was temperamental. In the specific cases I mentioned above - getting the Congratulations e-mail and then being unrecognised when trying to log on or change password - there's an unspecified delay between Congratulations and actually setting up the account.
On one of the two in question, FS still had no record this morning of the e-mail address they used for Congratulations yesterday.I was able to change it later, though - back to the original password.
I've now sync-ed a number of other AmEx cards. We'll see later.
The watchword seems to be Patience.0 -
I think you should get two emails when you sync a card, one from American Express Network and one from Foursquare (that was my experience anyway).0

Hi all, new to foursquare and have a question...
If I spend £50 in Debenhams using my synced AMEX card, (2 shirts at £25.00 each), then in a few weeks time, return one of the shirts for a refund, then the shirt I keep is effectively Free because of the £25.00 foursquare credit??
Thanks0 -

They will probably remove the £25 credit from your account if they see a refund.0 -
Yes I thought as much! Has anyone else had this happen or am I the only one after a 100% free freebie!
They will withdraw the credit if your refund takes you below the spend threshold.
You can of course be cheeky and try and get the refund put back onto your debit card. Some places ask to see the card to match up the last 4 digits to the receipt, but some just ask you to put your card in the chip and pin machine without asking. Why don't you buy a voucher from Debenhams, buy the shirt and then still have £25 left to spend? Perhaps keep it until theres something in the sale you want, I did!0 -
Does anybody know if you can use the offers for online purchases?
I am able to check in at a retailer remotely (without being there) so can I use the retailers online website to make purchases and get the relevant offer?
Are offers only valid once per card?
Thanks0
