Can anyone suggest a good tin opener please?

I use the 'Stab' tin opener. Recommended by my mother-in-law years ago and it is still going strong!
Main prize win myself, and 3 children enjoyed an all inclusive trip to Walt DisneyWorld Florida with £1500 spending money!!! Amazing!!!!!..Back to serious comping again after a break of 6 months

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to contribute. I felt a bit daft typing my original post, I'm glad I'm not alone with this sort of frustration.
Moggmutt - I couldn't agree more with your comment about them seeming to last years when you were young. I only ever remember my parents having one butterfly can opener which must have gone for years. I suppose the quality just isn't there anymore as things are made overseas to meet a target price.0 -
It's not exactly what you are asking for but a few years ago my husband bought me an electronic tin opener like this one from Kenwood. It cost around £15, but it's still going strong.
I remember thinking it was a ridiculous purchase at the time but I love it now, takes all the hassle out of opening tins
Katra, I did look at this today actually. Is it easy to use and become familiar with? It would probably work out cheaper in the long run if it lasted at least 3 years.0 -

Been using one for 47 years and it has never failed.
And no, I've never cut myself with one either.
Thanks geordie joe, I'm glad to hear you've never cut yourself with one. Maybe I'm being a wuss, but it looks like something out of a horror film to me!0 -
Yes it's very easy to use. It can be a bit fiddly to position the can properly but it's nothing compared to using a hand held can opener. The magnet is strong and holds the can in place and it just seems to guide itself around.
I can't remember how long I've had it but it's definitely been over 2 years, possibly more than 3. Before this I was buying can openers every few months too, but also because I have carpal tunnel in my hands I found it quite difficult to use them anyway.
I don't think I could go back to using the old fashioned kind now

Those electric ones are great, my mum had one, but beware of the cut off lid that sticks to the magnet. I reached for it wrong and cut through the end of my finger and sprayed blood all over mums ceiling. It was nothing major but a bit of a shock. If you're more sensible than me you will be fine

I agree. I splashed out on a Kuhn Rikon. I can confirm that it is totally ineffectual on nearly every can, but works like a dream on about one can in twenty, which is okay if you have the time to mess around. Mine's hardly ever used and I too use the 'butterfly' ones.I'll keep an eye on this thread! I've bought dozens of the damned things, from the Swiss Kuhn Rikon ones (which are claimed to be the best) through to the rubbishy Magican type, which seem to get flimsier and less use with each version.
The company which finally makes one that works and stays working for longer than a fortnight, is going to clean-up!0 -
After years of frustration with can openers that didn't last two minutes, I too invested in an electric one (from Argos). Best investment I ever made! It's far and away outlived any manual opener I've ever had."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
