I've not seen it, but if it serves as a reminder to women that their place is next to the kitchen sink it sounds good.

I disagree - she must be allowed to move to the oven and back every now and again, as well as moving with the hoover in a way that doesn't block my view of the TV.

not seen it but by the comments so far its nothing like our house, as the Mrs doesnt cook, and so far i have done all of our christmas shopping, and i also do the normal weekly shops as well, but then i dont really care if it doesnt represent our household, if you have any sense you know the meaning behind this type of advert and wouldnt complain
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

My advice to compmainants would be lighten up!

I'd sort of agree. My OH gets really irriated by it and the "Mum's gone to Iceland" ads. As she points out, some don't have a Mum around when they are growing up - for various reasons.

I love that advert and think it is very true to life. My dad was sat watching it with me over the weekend and had a chuckle to himself and said 'yeah that's about how it is'. To be fair to him and lots of men in general they are often the ones working all hours, in overtime etc, to pay for it all. I think organising celebrations like Xmas is all about give and take and everyone playing to their strengths.

I also love the John Lewis advert with its' snowmen which is pure class. It's not Xmas to me though till they show the Coca Cola advert; holidays are coming, holidays are coming..... :D
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Yes, I don't know why they had "complaints" about the Asda ad. That is EXACTLY how it is in my house and I work full-time while DH works part-time (although not by choice :()

His contribution to organising Christmas so far, is to tell me what his 3 year-old grand-daughter wants as a gift. This was after me asking him to ask his daughter at least three times during the past month, in the end, I phoned her and asked her myself! He's very good at saying things like...."don't forget the cranberry sauce and don't get that stuffing you got last year, it was horrible"....etc etc. He's also very good at making "helpful" suggestions such as.... "if we get the veg ready on Christmas Eve, that will save some time in the morning".....we've been doing that for years! :rotfl::rotfl:

Writing cards, shopping for gifts, food shopping and cooking, wrapping presents, putting up and decorating the tree....all done by me. Asda have got it spot on if you ask me! :D

Sounds just like me, I do all the cooking etc cos I enjoy it.
Would I complain - no - I've got far better things to do (cooking LOL)

In our house, yes hubby gets involved, but it's only sporadic. I am not anywhere near the perfect housewife, but I am the only one who will appreciate the size of the task ahead, allowing enough time, and the only one who will pay sufficient attention to details.

The last line "what's for tea love" I took to be a joke from the husband. After all he knows how hard she's been working and he knows exactly what's on the menu till New Years.

  • I have no problem with the advert itself but I think the punchline is a bit insensitive.

"Behind every great xmas there's a mum" (Or whatever it is)

I don't think they've shown much sensitivity to people who will be without their mum this xmas. It suggests you can't have a good xmas without a mum. I just think they could have worded that a bit better.

I'm a lone voice here but I hated it! I was gobsmacked at it. It's just reinforcing that women are the ones who should be at home doing all the work. It's as bad as the weetabix one where a dad has his son for just one day and is knackered, with the assumption that the mum's just expected to do it most of the time. Or the Maggi one where it's all about how great mum is because she does all the cooking.

It might appear to be just 'telling it how it is', or even to be showing how great mum's are, but it's really just saying 'mum does all the housework and cooking etc, while dad gets on with the important stuff'.

I really have been watching adverts over the last few months wondering when I fell into a time machine back to the 50s.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Blimey people get so over-excited about trivialities these days don't they? You'd think there was nothing else going on in the world, they need to get over themselves....

Yes the Asda ad is very similar to our house on the lead up to Xmas and the day itself (though if OH said "what's for tea" to me at that point he'd get something thrown at him ;)). I do the majority of the organising, preparation and cooking because I'm a control freak and no-one else can do it as well as me. :D I tend to just get on with it and if anyone offers to help they can, but if they don't then I'm perfectly happy beavering away in the kitchen, listening to music and drinking champagne as I peel the veg. If OH was in charge he'd make such a song & dance about it it would drive me up the wall. I wouldn't be able to relax or resist interfering :D
