No you're not.
I hate the look sof windows 8 with a passion, it's minimum common denominator (ie brain) development. I just got a new laptop and made a point of getting windows 7.Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
Windows 8 does look fairly cool but it wont appeal to everyone who loves windows 70

I'd go Windows 7. Let all the bugs in 8 get ironed out and then jump on it if it's better!0

I have the opportunity to pick up one of these

including keyboard, cheaply as owner is upgrading to one of the new hybrid win 8 laptops.
It is currently running win 7, so my thought is to upgrade to win 8.
I just want it as a second machine for when I am away from the house, and to try out win 8 on a touchscreen.
Does that look like a workable idea? (I am not techie so I don't need detailed explanation, just bullet points for/against would be great)
Thanks
There are places selling it for £250, and Win 8 should work. But don't forget to back up win 7 before you upgrade.0 -
Given that a £2 app will happily hide away the new Metro UI and bring back the Windows 7 start menu, which is all that really changed in Windows 8, I really don't see it being too much of a risk, especially since Windows 8 is a lot more than £2 cheaper than Windows 7.
I can understand if you already have Windows 7, not wanting to pay £25 for Windows 8. That is not a bad decision at all as most of the improvements are subtle (I don't consider Metro to be an improvement) but actually paying for Windows 7 right now seems pointless to me.0 -

Maybe because Windows 7 is better than Windows 8.Trillionaire wrote: »Why does the Windows 7 one cost more?0 -
Window 8 is a lobotomised version of Windows 7. Its Vista reborn.
....and I'm running it on a desktop, worst £15 spend ever! That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Its entirely possible if you are using it with a touch screen it makes more sense, with the standard keyboard and mouse it doesn't.
The much heralded apps are 99% not worth having, and most of your applications will run under the standard desktop. If you scratch the surface you are back to the familiar win7 screens.
Within the start screens interface the apps do work although I find that horizontal scrolling when using the mouse wheel is a bit odd.
With the old win7 desktop, hitting the windows button gave easy access to most functions, this has been replaced by the full screen metro interface and the context sensitive 'Charm'(!!!!!!) bar, that you find by moving the mouse down to the bottom right corner of the display.
My suggestion is try before you buy......you may like it.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
