Windows 7 or Windows 8 laptop?

I still haven't purchased a laptop after returning the Samsung RV520. I've got the following in my Amazon wishlist

Samsung NP350V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) (Intel Core i3 2370M 2.4GHz, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit) £429.58

And ..

Samsung 350V5C 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) - (Intel Core i3 3110M 2.4GHz Processor, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8)
£414.94

Why does the Windows 7 one cost more?
:j I hope my comment helps :T

The i3 is sold at £376 at cclonline.

Personally go for i5 with win7. You can spend £15 for upgrade to Win8 at the moment. And if you don't like Win 8, you can always get it downgrade. But you can't have that option with machine pre-install Win 8

However, for machine under £450, you can also consider this

:T Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees:rotfl: Yep they're sold by different companies (inc the ones that I listed in my original post as both the ones I listed are i3s).

The Lenovo has some bad reviews

This review is from: Lenovo G570 15.6 inch Laptop - Black (Intel Core i5 2450M 2.5GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit) (Personal Computers)
If you're looking for a good reason not to buy this laptop, google 'Lenovo G570 hinge'.

After 5 months the left hinge may break, as did mine. If you look on Lenovo's own customer forums, you will see this is very common. Yet, customers have typically been charged for sending their laptops back to service centres (waiting up to two weeks), only to be told the problem is not covered by the warranty.

It may be that many never experience this problem. I would say it's not worth the risk. If I could go back and buy a model by a different manufacturer, I would.

This is my first review in many years of using Amazon. Trust it. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Others have made the same complaint. I'm avoiding Lenovo products.

The Windows 8 one is a slightly higher spec and Windows 8 is actually a better OS, at least in terms of performance. Everyone has a different opinion about the new Metro interface in Windows 8, but that can be disabled with third party software.

The actual speed and performance of both CPUs in that laptop is identical, but the one with the i3 3110M in there uses a smaller die size which means lower power consumption, less heat and longer battery life.

The i3 3110M CPU also has Intel HD Graphics 4000 built in, wheras the i3 2370M uses the older Intel HD Graphics 3000.

Both of these are fairly average graphics controllers. They will serve you just fine for web browsing, office applications and the kind of things ordinary people want to do with their computers. Just don't expect to have a good experience playing any modern mainstream games like Call of Duty and so on.

So the cheaper machine has a better OS, slightly longer battery life and better graphics.

The other machine is likely an older one that's been sat in a warehouse for six months and they haven't bothered to revise the price.

OMG!! Someone who can 'speak' laptop:rotfl:.

Thank you for that. I'm leaning towards getting the i3 windows 8 one because of what you've said:T.

Laptop buying is sooooooooooo confusing, especially when your budget is not high.
