Many NHS staff never go anywhere near a patient, let alone one with an infectious disease.

That may be true - but NHS staff get colds/flu/stomach bugs themselves. And when they have these they should not be bringing them into a hospital environment.

The OP says "In my 3 years of service in NHS, I haven't taken single sick leave or absence." Now if the OP has never, during that period, had a cold/flu/stomach bug then they have been very fortunate.

If on the other hand they have, and struggled into work nevertheless, this is nothing to be proud of. It puts the health of weak/ elderly/immunocompromised patients at risk - and also risks causing staffing problems by spreading the illness to colleagues.

If an NHS trust has a sickness/absence policy that encourages staff to come to work when they have infectious diseases then that's just daft!
  • So just to be clear about it. Is your gripe that people get paid £25k AND get sick pay? Or that nobody has offered to employ YOU in the NHS on £25k and sick pay? If you think you are better than those working in the NHS, then stop whinging and prove it - get a job with them.

    .
No I never said that. I said there were jobs advertised at 25k when someone said the pay was very bad. I NEVER said I was better than anyone so maybe get your facts right.

You do talk some rubbish. £25,000 is a band 6 (or a band 5 with several years service), the only "administrators" you get at grade 6 are also managers and/ or have significant decision making/ budgetary powers. That is pretty poor pay for the responsibility involved.
what the hell is band 6 - I have seen an adminstrator role advertised on the NHS jobs this week paying that so I guess the job is fake if you say it's a managers role as it was not advertised as one at all.

I object to any public sector organisation being lax with sick pay. Cannot see the point in 6 months full pay whilst they have no problems recruiting.

If you do not know what a band 6 is then you clearly do not have enough knowledge to comment on NHS salaries.

Why would I? I have never worked anywhere where they are pay bands at all. Even if you do the same job you do not get the same salary. Still don't mean I have not seen an admin role (that is not a manager) on the NHS jobs page but like I say it must be a fake job if you say it's a managers role as there is no mention of that in the job spec.

anyway, the end - the op should maybe just call in sick then to get what the others are getting if that will make the OP feel better. Is he not winging?? ;)
  • Generally speaking when a person receives full pay, from day 1, there is going to be a higher rate of sickness than if they were only paid sick pay and had to wait until day 3 for that.

I've known people be off for 6 months and be told confidentially that the only reason that they are off is that they couldn't face coming into work ....but on the day that their sick pay was due to fall to half their normal salary they strangely enough found the incentive to return to work

Whilst I have no objection to a public funded body, such as the NHS, to offer such perks I do expect the managers to manage the absence policy robustly.

Calm down my love, you're going to give yourself a heart attack if you get any more worked up!

Did you look beyond the job title at this job you saw, did you actually check what the job entailed? You do understand that not all "administrators" solely do clerical work, don't you?

I have just searched on the NHS Jobs website, and the only "administrator" role that attracts a starting salary on more than £25,000 is a Database Administrator - this is a specialist technical role, and not a clerical administrator.

I am not worked up at all :rotfl:
No it wasn't a database administrator.

Carry on looking if you must.

What's the url link for that imaginary job you're talking about? Go on, show us evidence there's such a job.
