  • I believe you. I don't class that as a particularly good salary though.

MissSarah's lack of logic is indicative of the attitude which has got the workforce to the weak position it is in today. Short sighted self centred "I don't want anybody to get employment benefits (eg sick pay/salary) that I don't get, but being too lazy to join a union and demand them myself, I'll simply try to take them from those who have negotiated them."

    Unwitting stooge.

Depends what constitutes "admin", doesn't it. I prefer a job with a lot more responsibility and a wage to match. ;)

Sorry? A union can not get you sick pay in a private company. Or are you saying a union can make employers pay sick pay?

I am sure there are lots of people who get no sick pay other than SSP

I'm saying a strong collective bargaining position can pressure employers to offer better terms and conditions.

Edit, or a strong TUC representing a high percentage of the working population can lobby the government to improve sick pay legislation. Either way it's better than being spiteful about other's Ts&Cs.

Good point. With the English NHS being broken up bit by bit and sold off to the highest private bidders, sick pay will very soon be a thing of the past. As will decent healthcare.

How would you collective bargin when everyone has different terms and conditions and salaries? A private company will tell you and the union to get lost.

Then a strong unionised workforce walk out and the employer is stuffed. Do I really need to explain the concept of unions to you?

No as I know how unions work but they can not work for 200 staff in one firm who all get different pay, different holidays, different terms etc.
