Whilst I do sometimes think you're having a bit of a wind up with some of us, I'm sure your own DIY install is well up to scratch - even if it's not been signed off. That doesn't mean of course that it's a job for everyone - I'm sure muckybutt and hethmar and so on will have seen as many frightening DIY jobs as I have - including some of course by so called HETAS pros.
Personally - I always tell customers who ask, that they don't HAVE to have a liner in all cases, and they don't HAVE to have a HETAS bloke round to fit it - but that a liner may well improve things and avoid problems later, and that having it done may be easier for many than doing it themselves.0 -
Ive been reading stacks of threads on woodburner/multifuel burner installations. Fantastic information, great debates, some people are very knowledgeable and helpful on this subject which has been great.
Ive started getting quotes and visiting sellers. Some have suggested the 316/316 liner. As I intend to go the multifuel burner route I have asked for a price update so I can have a 904/316 liner. I thought that might be better for the better resistance to corrosion. No problem. Then I got thinking, Can I visually tell the difference between a 316/316 and a 904/316? How would I know I had the better liner after its been pushed in the chimney?
Is it possible to tell the difference? Does a 20yr guarantee on a liner *really* have any value?
Thanks.
I was confused about the whole 316 / 904 stuff too, I mean who's to know which one is best? Well as it happens some guy wrote a simple guide explaining it - flues2you,wordpress,com/what-type-of-flue-liner-do-i-need/ - thankfully! :j
As for warranties - yeah they're well worth it, just keep the paperwork and make sure the HETAS fitter has registered/warrantied the liner - else the warranty will be void :mad:0
