Ooops though taking out *any* cyclist is probably not a good idea. But then I guess the pro tour riders are fairly used to ending up on the deck anyway (and some of their crashes are seriously  like Vinoukorov in the 2011(?) TdF for instance)Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

The final stage of the 1991 TdF and Djmalodine Abdoujaparov (The Tashkent Terror) decides to keep his head down in the final sprint on the Champs Elysees

I hope that Wiggo recovers soon.0 -
2011 was particularly bad for crashes on the TdF I think. And then there was the one where one of the cars sent Flecha and Hoogerland flying into barbed wires
IIRC, Vinokourov ended up with a broken femur, broken pelvis and about a ton of bruises after vaulting over the embankment, down the ditch and hitting the trees on a downhill. Didn't stop him from winning the road race at the Olympics this year. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Wiggo or not, this will probably turn out as the van drivers fault, however from what I've read of reports, he was out on a training session with a back up van behind him. He chose to do this at dusk and rush hour, his back up van probably had flashing light on it etc - no wonder he was invisible, and coupled with the fact, if it was a training session I doubt he was tootling back from the shops with a big crusty baguette in his pannier.
Now; personal message to Bradley Wiggins.....
"You could turn this around, admit you should not have been going like billio in rush hour, it's not the time to have your head down and go 40/50+mph, some film of you in your pre-accident clothing and speed you were going; then look at it again for all the everyday cyclists, with extra light, hi-vis, helmet, light clothing etc."
So rather than bleat on about how cyclists need "special dispensation", educate them into making themselves seen, and riding defensively - at the end of the day they will come off worse against a car/van/lorry.
Might also help with his book sales too
PS. Am not anti cyclist, it's just that most seem to think they are indestructible and never in the wrong. Many would listen to BW, so maybe a safety campaign by him especially with the darker nights, may just get through to some.0 -

So the facts he had lights,a helmet and was dressed in Sky gear doesnt matter?

Nothing in that article that states he was wearing all the hi vis gadgets.
By all means post what you think the A stands for on a £20 note, but post them to me please
.
Is his speed mentioned anywhere?0 -
A cyclist that could have been at fault. I say we take Sally A and burn her at the stake for suggesting such a thing!0
