    *yawn and stretch*

    Morning all :D

Hope Santa was good to each and every one of you. He was most excellent to me and arrived bearing games (Lego LOTR being particularly good fun!), Doctor Who memorabilia (I now have a biscuit barrel that is not only shaped like a TARDIS but makes the noise!) and other awesome things.

I went and participated in the madness of the sales yesterday and was in the queue in Next for over an hour (!!) but managed to get some nice things for work hopefully, assuming they fit. I'm trying nothing on for a couple of days as I have totally forgone the diet for the last few days and although I've enjoyed it I'm starting to notice my trousers tightening. I'll be back on that wagon soon enough.

I did notice yesterday that although Next was busy, it wasn't that bad in other places. I also didn't buy half as many things as I normally would. I don't think that the sales are as good as they have been in the past - either that or I'm finally becoming more frugal! There are a couple of bits I want to buy online, but nothing huge so I'll do that this morning and then once that's done I'm going to be good.

I have my first electronic payslip and am getting £206.65 this week, which will be my normal full wage. I do need to check my taxcode though - it just shows as BR. Does anyone know what that means?

    So:

    Money in: £206.65
    Bills: £136
    Leftover: £70.65

£70 sounds a lot but has to get me all my food, petrol and incidental expenses like bus fares, which are £14 per week, so it's not as much as it sounds. My plan is to pay for all the food on my credit card, gaining some Tesco points, and to clear the balance weekly. It's still sitting at zero at the moment.

Better get ready for work now anyway and find my brolly - it's seasonal weather out there :D

    Merry Christmas all!

    Happy Christmas, moo!

I had a great time, but am back at work now...boooo!

HMRC give some reasonably clear advice about the BR tax code here.

    Think BR is basic rate.

BR is basic rate. You need to get off that quickly. Did you get a P45 from your old job? Give it to your new job and whoever does the salaries will put it through when they set you up as a new employee. It doesn't matter if it is only a temporary job, they should still put it through if you are going to be there for more than one week. The good news is you will get back any tax you might be owed from being on BR but it can take time. HMRC are quick to take it but not so quick to give it back. The sooner they get your tax code right, the better. The current tax code for "normal" people is 810L and that is what you want to see on your wage slip. The details on your P45 are tax and national insurance paid so far this tax year. The person who sets you up as a new employee should be putting those details into the system so that HMRC can continue collecting your tax where they left off from your old job.

Oh come on gap, it is Chrismas, stop boring everyone!! Sorry, was getting a bit carried away there.

Hope you and Mr Moo had a lovely Christmas and I wish everyone a great new year :D

Hmmm to the basic rate tax as new employers were given my P45 so they should have fixed that. I'll email them today if I have time...

    Money stuff

I'm only going to be getting paid for two days this week as Christmas/Boxing Day were holidays and I was off sick on Friday. I have been choked with the cold all weekend but it's not going away :(

    So, here's how things look:

Spending money - £73.05 which is for all food/petrol etc. I had £20 cash left in my food purse, so spent that yesterday and should be ok for food for the next few days.
Bills - £343.07 and I only have £200ish coming out in the next two weeks, so that's ticking over fine too. I might end up having to pay all my wages from this week into the bills account and trying to make the £73 in my spending account last for longer, but there's loads of food in the house so it shouldn't be too bad.

The credit card balance is at zero again (woo!) and I should have around £100 sitting in Paypal soon as I had a crafty clearout yesterday and sold a loads of stuff on Facebook. I'm just waiting for payment for a couple of bits. I reckon I'll have to spend about £20 on postage, but the rest will be all mine!

Right, going to get showered and dressed and then decide if I'm going to work or the doctors. Urgh...!
