PJ day at work was a success although I felt so sleepy wearing them. Now wearing them to bed which is probably a bit gross but I have been looking forward to this moment all day. I think we raised about £50 for CIN so worth the effort.

Gave BF my cc to buy dinner - not actually sure how much he spent. should probably check as need to transfer money from food tin to cc tin. I have a crazy tin system which BF thinks is hilarious but it works for me :)

Seem to have a bit of spare cash in my account so transferred £25 to the ISA taking it to £1025. We are talking about buying a sofa in January and that is one purchase I think should be new and not be too cheap. I think BF is very excited about being able to buy furniture in a shop rather than at the tip :rotfl:If anyone has any sofa buying tips would love to hear them.

Me - when we buy a sofa you should take out a 0% cashback card and we can buy it on that. Then we will make money on the purchase.

    BF - huh?

Well that way we make cash on the purchase, plus we keep the money saved for it in my ISA meaning that accumulates interest too.

BF - sounds fab. lets do that.

Getting through to him one MSE tip at a time :j

    Later on however...

BF - For some reason my Mum has deposited £1500 in my ISA but told me not to spend it.

Me - she shouldnt have but thats cool. Lets keep that as part of the emergency fund and then more of my savings can go on sofa and op the mortgage

BF - I am thinking of buying a moterbike. It will save us money.

    Me - huh?

BF - Well it would cost less than half the fuel of the car to run.

Me - So it would finally pay for the cost of the bike in savings in 5 years time!

    Sigh :(

    Another NSD for me.

BF went to Comet sale to look for a phone extension lead. Dont get me started on how much petrol it took to get to our nearest one and they didnt have one. So he bought himself a discounted PS3 for £120

Apparently he found some money from somewhere. :wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:
  • Bless you. I think you may have some work to do!

MY DH is the same. I save and he stops off at b and q and spends +++ on some project or other. He does understand my tight ways though and is very tolerant. Esp when i get to a check out and drag out loads of vouchers or when Im in sell everything on ebay mode.

    Hi Lilyp,

I have really enjoyed reading your diary this morning -I can relate to it too, I am a MFW, but am doing it on my own, with a £250 overpayment each month. Mortgage now sub 23k.

Just a couple of things that I find helpful...

Quidco/topcashback :j for essentials gas, electric, BT, sky (ok not essential but desirable in this house, and it was a mse half price offer)

Ordered a 3 and 2 sofa from Laura Ashley in September 12 (quidco topcashback money has been put aside for 14 months, since the living room was decorated, so the sofa has not cost me a penny.) said sofa is getting delivered on 11 December. I went through quidco to buy it, and £166.60 :T has just gone into my bank account on Friday (which was the cash back from the sofas). That should cover the cushions, and nik naks to go with it. And £100 will be going into the granite work top fund. Am selling the old sofa to a friend for £150, :T so that will be going into the granite fund too.

Ps. You make me feel so guilty. I knew it was a free listing weekend this weekend, and was very despondent and didn't list anything. :(

Will call by in a few days to see if you can inspire me even more!

BF is also pretty tolerant about the conservatory being filled up with ebay junk. I think he is slowly coming around - he just needs to be reminded of the end goal on a daily basis. I quite like the idea of having another half who has B&Q projects - at least stuff gets done around the house :D

    Hi Andi-Lou

Thanks for your lovely comments. I didnt use Ebay this weekend either. I usually use free listing weekends to list the stuff I dont expect to sell as it costs nothing if it doesnt and usually half of it goes . But I was working all weekend and really long shifts so I was too shattered to do it.

I really need to look at Quidco. I know nothing about it. See im still such a newbie but learning all the time :j

So last night I wrote BF a long letter explaining all my reasons for the money stuff. Tonight we sat and had a good chat and I think he is much more on board with it all. We had a look at his finances and worked out where the leaks are. We are also going to put £50 aside each, each month, for a holiday fund as he finds this really important.

Horrible start to work today. My boss was having a bad day and took it all out on me. Was feeling stupidly emotional anyway (PMT - sorry boys) and ended up sobbing in the staffroom at lunch. I then smoked so we didnt give up today and BF has a crappy day tomorrow so I reckon we wont stop then. Really really cross with myself for being so pathetic. It is the biggest killer of ourselves and our finances.

So a £10 spend in Sainsburys on fags and a bit of food then we snuggled on the sofa and watched Homeland. Nice night and glad BF is being more understanding.
