my basic recipe for standard veg soup is ...

    carrots, diced
    turnip (swede) diced
    onions, diced
    leeks (optional but nice) sliced
any or all of lentils/barley/dries peas/dries beans (soak the large pulses overnight)
a tin of tomatoes & their juice (optional) crushed
    soy sauce
    salt & pepper
no quantities because everyone likes their soup different, I like mine so you can stand a spoon up in it :D

put in SC, cover with water & simmer till the pulses are done. adjust seasoning & add some fresh herbs if you like, my favourite is parsley

If Swan doesn't get back on line you could go to the site linked above and pick a recipe similar to the one you have in mind and use the timing for that.

  • hi,
as this is a bit of a sc thread i thouhg i'd ask here rather than starting something new.
i bought my sc 2 weeks ago now - i spent a weekend cooking evey day - so my freezer still has meals left in it. everything i have done so far has been lovely - but my dumplings didn't work.

i have to admit that i bought a pack of dumpling mix - but instead of water i used the steak and kidney juice from the sc. but they came out all hard.

i know people have different tips of when to put them in etc - but i think i can do better than a pack of dumpling mix

    thanks

sorry I missed the timing out :o I think I give about 5-6 hours on high or 8-9 on low .. if you're just using red lentils you could probably do it in less time as they cook quickly
