me too!! got the replacement cover as well. Don't panic, all, I haven't gone mad. As it was less than a tenner, it was only £1.49! And considering that it now includes accidental insurance, that I am off to share a flat with 8 other people at uni and that I am extremely clumsy, it is good value.

    one of my faves:

look in bottom of fridge & locate all random bits of veg...if not enough try the freezer.

wash, chop and throw into slow cooker

add some tinned toms / passata

add an organic stock cube / lea & perrins / some kind of seasoning

(sometimes i add quorn chunks or similar.)

as ausielle says - mainly trial and error - i use it loads, especially in the winter.

lentils and beans also cook really well in here and soak up the flavour nicely.

lea&perrins is not vegetarian! It has fish (anchovies) in it! you can get veggy worcester sauce though

Anyone know of any recipes involving apples? cant seem to find any, i would like to try making a pudding in my sc tonight, any recipes?
  • After finding this thread and reading loads about slow cookers I have borrowed a small one to try out from a friend. The only thing is now deciding what to make as my first meal???? There are so many to choose from. Bear in mind OH and son like simple meals. I might try out a chicken casserole, beef stew or sausage in onion gravy for starters. I can't wait to use it, if I like it - (which I think I will) I will invest in one.

welcome to the forums! Everyone is very friendly and I've picked up loads of tips too.:)
    :)
  • I'm so excited - I have bunged in my braising steak, carrots, onions and diced potatoes in the slow cooker.

This will be my first slow cooked meal and I'm hoping it will turn out ok.

We plan to eat about 5.45pm so it should be perfect.

In fact I'm looking at recipes for the rest of the week, my boys will think that christmas has come early as I don't really pre plan what we will have for tea

  • Love it- I have just stumbled on this forum and inspired me too!! just got some beef out to defrost.. for some yummy home cooked food...
  • I've just checked my meal for tonight, I know I have over 3 more hours but the onions are even hardish. Does it suddenly turn a one point and then it's done. Am I being too eager by checking it earlier than it should take? I hope so as it does smell nice.
