I requested a Slow Cooker for Christmas from OH and I've got a Dual Pot one - it is fabby! You can do veg in one side, meat in the other or two completely different meals in each side. It was marked down from £50 to £25 at Sainsbury's. It's fabby! I made a lamb casserole type thing - just prepacked veg in bottom, chunks of lamb on top and a pint of lamb stock. It was gorgeous! Stirred in gravy granules at end to thicken up.

Tonight it's - mixed veg, potatoes, and chunks of beef in beef stock. Smells LOVELY! Can't wait to eat it!

Love this thread and all of the ideas. Been reading through it on and off for 3 days now! Thanks to everyone! I've got three slow cooker recipe books so, if anyone is looking for something in particular, let me know. I'll see what I can do! Happy slow cooking!

    Hi Chinatown -

I read somewhere in this post that cooking a whole chicken in slow cooker is no problem. There are a few variations but, I would go with the following:

Ball up a few bits of tinfoil and put in bottom. Put chicken on top and add a bit of water - just enough to cover the bottom half of the tinfoil. It doesn't really need to touch the chicken. I would start by cooking on high for at least an hour (in a pre-heated slow cooker) and then on low for about 4-5 hours. This would be my guess. I've read you can do it on low for 6 hours but it all depends on your slow cooker and the size of the chicken. You could replace tinfoil with loads of veg and a bit of stock? Hope this helps!

Good luck - let us know how you get on!

  • Hi,do you have to make the sauce up with extra water or something as surely one jar would not be enough?

    Thanks
  • how do you make it enough in a jar to cover the meat?Do you use more than a jar or add water or something???What i mean is im quoting someone earlier saying you can cheat on using ready made sauces in your slow cooker..... anyone help, please?
  • how long to cook & what setting would youput it on , thanx
  • Okay, I've been reading this thread for about an hour and still not got all the way through it! lol! Some fabulous ideas though, got me inspired to go stick my SC on for something for tea.

From what I've been reading, am I right in thinking so long as your brave enough to try different concoctions (sp?) you can just chuck anything in and go with it?

I'm thinking of chicken breasts, mushroom soup, white wine, mushrooms, onions, leek and tarrogan. Then do some rice separately at the last minute to serve with it. Do you think this would be tasty?
