What sort of joint do i need
How long and at what temperature do i cook it at.
Do i put in water, veg, etc.
How do i make gravy with the stock.
And any other basics i really ought to know. want to use it for xmas lunch as never done it before and don't want to be worrying about basting, etc.
Hi There, i bought 2 nice cheap pieces of brisket last week and stood them in an inch of liquid made with an oxo cube, i surrounded them with onions and cooked them on low for about 8 hours (i did them overnight on the economy 7) They turned out really nicely, i used one for roast dinners and made pies with the other one.
I`ve also done the same with a chicken with a chicken oxo but i stood the chicken on 4 balls of crushed foil so that it was just above the liquid and that turned out really well too. I threw the onions and liquid in the blender to make nice onion gravy with so nothing was wasted.
I think as long as you cook the meat for long enough anything will turn out well and there are some fantasic recipes on here.

I've been looking through all the recipes on here too, thanks to everyone for sharing them - lots to try out.
I don't know if this is any help, but if you want to adapt conventional recipes, the following guide should help with cooking times :-
Conventional oven/hob 20-30 minutes, slow cooker on low setting 4-6 hours, slow cooker on high setting 1.5 - 2.5 hours
Conventional oven/hob 30-45 minutes, slow cooker on low setting 6-8 hours, slow cooker on high setting 3-4 hours
Conventional oven/hob 45 mins - 3 hours, slow cooker on low setting 8-10 hours, slow cooker on high setting 4-6 hours
Hope it helps someone!

I cooked a couple of lamb shanks in my slowcooker and just used a packet lamb and mint gravy sachet. I didn't use as much liquid as the sachet said as it doesn't boil away in the SC. When they were done I lifted them out and thickened the gravy with a bit of cornflour. Yum yum!0
