You probably saw it on an old post, for some reason that's how it used to come out. HTH

I have just bought my first slow cooker from ALDI, alot of recipes say to pre-heat, but the user handbook says do not switch on the cooker if the ceramic pot is empty. Which is correct?
I normally turn mine onto high whilst preparing ingredients (I don't pre cook everything goes in cold) then bung everything in and turn down to low. :T:snow_laugChristmas is just around the corner

I cooked today: Pork Loin Joint in white wine
1 Pork Loin joint
1 glass dry white wine
6 cloves garlic
1 onion (quartered)
basil or mixed herbs
I st*bbed 6 holes in the pork joint and then inserted the garlic, seasoned with black pepper and covered in mixed herbs, I then browned the joint in a pan, put the glass of wine in the sc along with the onion, place the joint in, up on high for 1 hour, down to med for about 5 hours, and it was fantastic. I am really pleased with the results from my sc so far.
Edited: to add I have the MR 6.5Ltr one and I think it cooks quite quickly, so others may have to adjust their cooking time."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. I'm a really new Money Saver. I just gave my old tower Slo-Cooker (bought 2nd hand) to my Grandma (she's recovering from surgery, doesn't want to stoop into the big oven, or worry about the dinner etc...that's not money-wasting, she's family!)
So... I need to replace my Slo-Cooker. It doesn't need to be huge, cooking for 1 or 2, and sometimes extra for the freezer. I'd be grateful to any of you who are addicted to your slow cookers pointing me in the direction of the best make / model. If anyone has any ideas about current good deals, they'd be really appreciated!

Hi Frankie
I bought my last week, from Tesco it's a 3.5 Ltr. It was in the sale and was onlt 9.99. I have used it for some casseroles and they've turned out great.

Hi all,
I`ve had my slow cooker about a week now and i did a joint of brisket in it this weekend with some onions to make the gravy, i must say it was awesome :-)
I bought it after being inspired by this thread and it`s the MR 6.5 litre one.
Tonight i will mostly be cooking liver and bacon casserole, the liver and bacon are still in the fridge and i`ll add them to it before i go to bed, here`s what else is in so far:-
4 Onions
8 Mushrooms
4 Carrots
2 Oxo`s
1 Cup of red lentils
a few squirts of worcs sauce.
Before i go to bed i`ll be adding chopped potatoes, a pack of cut bacon bits and about £1.60 worth of lambs liver and a tin of chopped tomatoes.
A bit of extra liquid if there dosen`t seem to be enough.
If it needs thickening some more i`ll just add cornflour later but i`m betting that this will turn out nice.
Can anyone think of anything else to throw in?0 -

I bought this one last night and have just put my first dinner into it! Just threw some cubed stewing beef (that i covered in flour and pepper), leeks, carrots, courgettes, swede, red onions, 1 1/2 pts water and 1/2 pt of red wine. I shall see how it turns out at 8pm tonight!:rudolf: I love xmas!0 -
lazy but healty 5 veg pot
I ended up making this in desperation of eating enough veg (long story)
2 x peppers
8 big mushrooms
1 medium onion
3 x finger chillis
1 bulb cerleriac
4 x carrots
1 x aubergine
1 x large cougette/small marrow
3 x cans toms
leave overnight or during the day - its yummy (you could always add some chick peas or similar or sprinkle with cheese when serving.) Ive cooked this just for me and will eat it over the next 2 - 3 days as OH is revolted by the veggies!0 -

What sort of joint do i need
How long and at what temperature do i cook it at.
Do i put in water, veg, etc.
How do i make gravy with the stock.
And any other basics i really ought to know. want to use it for xmas lunch as never done it before and don't want to be worrying about basting, etc.now mum of 4!!!0 -
