Barclays told me they had no record of my loan with them from 1997. I did a bit more research found Barclays insurance and gave them a call.
Plenty of other examples of this have been posted. User Pink1808 was told the RBS loan he was complaining about hadn't even been drawn up. On presentation of evidence to the contrary, the Bank upheld the complaint.
  • Thanks to all for the advice.
I made the request by letter for info about my husband, and they didn't even cash my £10 cheque - they returned it together with a summary which did indeed have the Barclayloan and the PPI policy number. I filled in the questionnaire using the summary details and although I haven't yet had a 'claim upheld' letter, I think one is on the way. An unexpected large amount has shown up in our joint Barclays account! Will update when I know the details. :)
PPI on Natwest loan, Barclayloan, MBNA credit card, and Mortgagecare all repaid just for asking in 2012/2013!

Barclaycard - PPI refund refused 26/01/13, ombudsman upheld 12 May 2014, Barclays resisted until March 2015 - FOS say Barclays are calculating an offer, they have 8 weeks.

Sorry for hijacking this a bit!

I called barclaycard yesterday as i had a morgan stanley, goldfish and then barclaycard.

I asked for the account number and the guy gave me the last 4 digits of the barclaycard account number and confirmed that i did have ppi on the card in 2007 when it changed to barclaycard from goldfish until i closed the card in 2011.

Is this enough information to put a claim in? Do i need to do a sar?

You dont need to do a SAR. You just have to put your complaint in giving yoru reasons.

    Thanks dunston,

Will they know the info on the morgan stanley and goldfish accounts too?

Depends on whether they were closed before Barclaycard bought them. Typically, they were supplied data on open accounts. The info they have on accounts closed prior to them buying the book is minimal.

No they were not closed, because i just got a new card through everytime it changed, never actually changed my account or closed it until 2011.

I had the account from 2002. If i had ppi from the beginning but did not know it could they have just carried it on everytime the companies were bought out?

Pretty much everything from Morgan Stanley/Goldfish was transferred straight across, PPI included. Put your complaint into Barclaycard and they'll use whatever they have to look into it for you.

So if the ppi was taken out before 2005 with morgan stanley before the industry was regulated would i still have a claim with barclaycard/goldfish?

You have a complaint with whoever owned the card when you closed it.
The firm who buys the previous firm out buys the liability too unless it's agreed otherwise, or split up.
