I was in the Grimsby store at about 5pm and the staff were marking down selected stock by 20%.

Not much I was interested in as it was mainly toasters, coffee makers, irons etc. but left before all the reduction tickets were in place.

Went yesterday to have a look at what is left. The store I went to had virtually already been stripped out. Not many display models left as these had been sold if there was no more stock. No dysons as these have been taken back by dyson.

One of the SA was talking to a guy who wanted a product. She just told him straight curry's sell them currently and they are cheaper than here. I do feel sorry for the staff. :(

Im glad someone is thinking of the staff most people are just out to complain about the dusty £5 comet voucher they had at the back of a draw only to dig it out so they could have a moan they could not use it, they have been reinstated so hooray for them , while me and my family and many others have no idea if our paycheck will be coming in for christmas!
  • Statement from Deloitte, 6th November.

    Important update on gift cards.

Following our appointment as Administrators to Comet at 4:30pm on Friday 2nd November, it was necessary to temporarily suspend the acceptance of gift cards as a means of payment in order to allow the Joint Administrators time to assess the financial position of the company and collate information about the quantity, value and nature of gift cards in circulation.
Having now had the opportunity to do so, we are very pleased to inform Comet customers that the Company will be able to accept gift cards which have been purchased and paid for in full by members of the public. We are also pleased to announce that the Company will be able to accept and honour gift cards issued on behalf of the charity Family Fund.
At this stage, it is necessary to maintain the temporary suspension on gift cards which have been issued to people on behalf of a corporate customer, for example by insurers, pending clarification from the relevant providers as to whether Comet has received payment in full for these cards.
We recognise that the temporary suspension of gift cards has caused concern and anxiety to those customers affected. In the short time available since our appointment the Administrators have worked urgently to bring clarity to this matter, while at the same time stabilising the business and seeking a buyer. We are very grateful to customers for their patience in allowing us time to properly assess the situation.

I was told yesterday by a member of staff that all they were discounting by was 10%.
Kettering store that was all they were offering - they were pricing up(or down) today
  • Have a gift card (not got much on it I don't think) but will pop in and see if I can get something just to use it up. Hadn't noticed the post about this when I was in town earlier. Thanks.
    If I had known then what I know now . . .

I feel for you, I really do, and I actually know how you feel as my family have been in the same position you're in. I know you must be upset and worried/stressed but I don't think you're being fair, when it happened to me I really felt sorry for the customers that lost their money. You have to remember that not everybody that has gift vouchers can afford to lose that money, also with somewhere like Comet many people don't have a 'dusty £5 voucher at the back of a drawer', some people would have lost hundreds of pounds worth.

I do feel bad for you, I hope Comet finds a buyer so that the staff don't lose their jobs but I think you're being unfair about the others that this could have affected.

    All the best.

Tamworth = 10% off most items. Not worth the journey. The staff said it will be another couple of weeks until the bigger reductions but they would say that wouldnt they. Dont blame them though

I dunno why these things always seem to happen just bef\ore Christmas. Wishing all the staff well in securing employment elsewhere, it must be so tough for you and your families.

Actually pretty pleased that Comet have not done a stampede-causing sell off of the stock, somehow this at least gives a speck of respect to the poor laid-off staff facing a rubbish Christmas and New Year.
