Recorded Delivery...how long?

I would repay. Some might not. It might depend on how well the seller responded to any complaints. On most INRs where the item has turned up I've been more than happy to contact the seller, let them know and repay or pay for the replacement that was sent. On one, where I had a dispute, it was more of an issue to me. I did repay, but I just Paypalled her the money and had done with it - I didn't even message her to say I'd done it, I just did it to salve my own conscience and whether she noticed it or not wasn't my concern at all. She wasn't someone I wanted to deal with again (she got obliterated when her dropshipper failed her and she made promises to her customers that she just couldn't keep), but I couldn't even open the envelope containing the item before I had repaid.

The moral of the story is, if you keep your buyers happy, they will keep you happy.

Incidentally, some tracking numbers never update even though an item is delivered, so don't worry too much unless a buyer gets in touch.

Hi, hope its not mine your waiting for.. I posted about 10 items on the 29th, all first class recorded. Half arrived the next day and the next three within 3 days, but the last two are still in the system.
Now what happens if my buyers ask and gets a refund, and the items then turn up before i claim against RM?

Have the buyers told you that - or are you just looking at the online tracking. Many items never get updated - and i would say 2/10 was about right.

As for refunding, and then the item arriving - it happened to me. Buyer was patient enough - but i didn't want to push it. I refunded and then filed a claim.

4 weeks later - claim denied by RM - as buyer says the item arrived.

I sent a firm but fair email asking for my item or my money back - and he obliged. But not all will do this.

    As for Saturday,meeeeh
    technically yes,but with complications
Saturdays in RM were historically shorter days.
by means of working longer days during the weeks and slightly different mail feeds
so it is a service day,but with some caveats

Thanks for confirming, according to eBay CS they use an API linked with RM to calculate ETAs and some time recently (a few weeks back) RM officially classed Saturday as a business day meaning if you don't post on a Saturday but that Saturday is in the handling time you're one day short.

    Recorded adds nothing
its just a 1st class item

It's still a form of tracking which is linked into PayPal and eBay dispute system.

If the seller enters this under the dispute process and shows delivered with a signature then eBay / PayPal will generally favor the seller.

I know this as I am a very experienced seller and have had plenty of experience of items not turning up and a dispute opened. A simple recorded delivery item is sufficient for tracking evidence on the behalf of the seller.

Although I know your case is different I am simply replying to the quote above. In your scenario where the item is still in the system, it may be worthwhile contacting your local sorting office who may be holding your item, they generally try and deliver sometimes and on the odd occasion don't leave one of them cards.

This has happened to me a lot and a simple call to a sorting office locates the item and the fact that it was attempted to be delivered but nobody was available for it to be signed.

I'm not really sure of your point
I know full well how recorded works
It adds nothing to the speed of delivery

Very good point, but i always check my sorting office if waiting for a parcel that should have already arrived, even though im currently on maternity and generally in 99% of the time.

You do raise a valid point but unfortunately you are wrong in saying it is a form of tracking.

It isn't, it is a signed for (on receipt) service enhancement to first or second class mail. So it's no more secure, no faster and it doesn't track. It merely updates if it is signed for upon delivery.

Just a quick update, after i messaged the seller they replied, ignoring my request for a refund if the item doesnt show and instead told me that they had infact posted 2nd class recorded, not 1st as it would have cost more than they charged.
Although they charged me £4.75 for postage, which i was fine with if it was a courier as the listing stated! As far as i am aware this means they actually spent £3.15 on posting the item using 2nd class and it would have been £3.65 had they sent 1st class, is that correct?

I have just sent another message today asking for them to refund my paypal payment and then file a claim with royal mail for the loss. I really dont see them being helpful, so i will open a case if i have to.

Open a dispute anyway. I also feel a severe DSR hammering heading their way.

Yup, a seller did that to me recently, I left him mediocre stars and then someone else's item arrived damaged and they got negged.

If they are doing this to you then they are doing it to someone else and it is going to rebound on them big-time.
