At the start, 6-7 years ago when I had no gumption, I used uk2.net because they were cheap.
I still have 3 accounts with them and I hate having to go near them.

I love the "auto-renew" phrase. from yer man. Sums UK2 up perfectly.

Ages ago, I looked at transfering the domains out but it looked a mess.

And for some reason the renewal of a particular domain name has staggered dates, which confuses me somewhat.

So whats the plan then chaps - I for one am not paying for this service that was included in my original t&c. I also need catch all forwarding due to my many bookies and casino accounts that I am bagging bonuses at :D

So - are there good ISPs to swithc too? What are the costs? What other options do we have???

I used to have dozens of domains with UK2, but have just finished moving all of them away. Like the posters above, I started noticing creeping charges, and the charge to move the domain away if it hasn't been with UK2 for at least one renewal was bordering on criminal IMHO. It's a free market, and you should be able to change registrars at no charge if you want.

The only thing UK2 were good for (and they've even stopped this bit now) was checking domain name availability, with links to whois directly on the page if it was already taken so you could quickly check how much longer it was registered for. They must have cottoned on to the fact that it was being abused (I know I did).

For anyone who's interested, https://www.ukreg.com have .co.uk registrations for £5.90 + vat for 2 years. They have catchall forwarding for free. Their control panel is a bit clunky but simple enough to use.

It's a pity they don't have a referral scheme (and that was allowed by MSE) as I can see a mass exodus of UK2 members on the horizon! :)

At first look ukreg looks like a fair clone of UK2 for me, the FAQ is not very deep so it is hard to be sure.

For webdiversion is it similar to UK2 with banners all over or is it better.

How much does it cost to transfer a .co.uk from UK2 - it is not obvious on the UK2 website?

I'm wondering the same thing - does it cost much to move from UK2? How long does it take, and will the service be interupted at all?????

Also says here free email forwarding (for up to five). So this all seems a bit confusing.

I think there is a bit of confusion here.
We still offer free email forwarding for up to five, that has not changed.
Chances are that you - like the majority of our clients - are not using the catch-all feature (perhaps you have never even heard of it) and you think that we would take away all email forwarding. No No No - that is not what we are doing, email forwarding (email diversion as it used to be called) still works, and you can forward any mail to any mail you like. You have up to five single email forwarders as always.

I use http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/ for my .co.uk forwarding. Cheap domains, but a nice interface and all mail has been forwarded to the correct mailboxes.
  • Ok Ditlev,

Clearly there will never be agreement, but I guess you are well placed to say how much you charge for us to move our domians away, and what sort of delays are involved.

As you said you expect to loose a few thousand customers, I guess this will be a common qustion.

Waiving the charge for the people moving away would be a nice gesture.
