chris_aaaaa wrote: »As I read this there should be a big WARNING with this, not only have UK2 started charging for this service, but I get the definite impression they aim to automatically start taking the money, for me hosting would go from about £10 a year to £60+.
They only have details of an expired card fror me, so they should not be able to take it, but who knows...
If you don't want to pay for catch-all forwarding then you can follow the instructions in the e-mail uk2 sent out:
If you would like to remove Catch All Forwarding:
If during your free month of service you would like to cancel Catch All Forwarding and remove it from your Domain Name, you will need to follow these simple steps:
· Go to http://www.uk2.net/login and log into your account
· Click on “Renewal Calendar” · Choose the “View by Domain” option
· Select the Domain Name for which you want to disable Catch All Forwarding
· You should see the following:
Service
Expires
Renew
Period
Catch all e-mail forwarding
12-May-2007
(tick box)
1 month - £4.99 + VAT
· To disable Catch All Forwarding make sure the tick box in the “Renew” column is blank, which means on Saturday 12th May 2007 the service will expire and you will not be charged
· Don’t forget to click "Update auto-renew settings" to confirm the change
· This process needs to be carried out for all UK2 Domains..0 -
If you don't want to pay for catch-all forwarding then you can follow the instructions in the e-mail uk2 sent outI do use the catch all a lot, to combat spam, I use chris@mydomain.co.uk for personal stuff, and things like greedybankname@mydomain.co.uk so that I can catch out those selling my email address on.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I was replying to the poster's comment that he/she was unsure whether he/she would be charged or not. I was pointing out that there is a way of disabling the feature, and that uk2 have notified people of how to do so.
I can't help him with his other point; perhaps if this thread could be moved to a more appropriate board then someone would be able to?.0 -
I did follow the instructions etc so I will not get charged.
But what if the email had fell to my spam filter, the first I would have known would have been the charges on my credit card.
New charges like this must be opt in not out, it is just unfair practice.
The bit about not wanting to pay for it, £60 a year is a little steep!

Chris
Did you read the post I made above?
1) Current clients will not be paying £60/year, its £19.95/year
2) We have sent out 3 mails regarding this, we have posted this on our site, our blog, in a big red box in your admin, you would get further renewal reminders via mail AND - as mentioned above, you would get a full refund if you came to us after saying that you didn't want catch all.
3) We can't disable people's mail, that situation could be very serious for some. Doing it like this is really the only option currently.

Purely out of interest, to Ditlev if you're still reading, what happens to 'undeliverable' mails sent to an account that hasn't signed up to 'catch-all' but still uses the '5 email addresses'?
For example someone wants to send an email to abus@example.com or potmaster@example.com?
(I assume, here, that you provide the required email addresses for a domain, per RFC such as postmaster and abuse, free of charge to people wanting your basic package.)Conjugating the verb 'to be":

Thats the whole point. We are NOT taking away email diversion, it is still here, exactly as it was before. You will still have 5 email forwarders (email diversion) just like you had before, and like it was described on the archive.org (love that page as well).WHAT IS EMAILDIVERSION
EmailDiversion which is included in your package allows you to forward ANY mail that arrives to your domain to a single mailbox anywhere.EmailDiversion is included free of charge with your domain. All email to your domain will be received on our servers and then delivered to an email address of your choice.
If you disagree, perhaps you could please explain for everyone how it is possible under the new system to forward any email sent to a domain to a single mailbox anywhere, without paying? Your website stated that this service was "included in your package". You are now attempting to charge customers for a service which your website clearly stated was "included free of charge with your domain"!0 -
I do exactly the same as chris_aaaaa and have been doing for the last 7 years or so, as has my wife. I'm pretty certain that when I signed up it was redirect all mail to one address or pay for up to 200 specific addresses still including the catch remaining option. I use specific accounts to redirect named family accounts away and also persistant spam but I must have registered literally hundreds of companyname@mydomain.com addresses. I'd just about accept uk2 charging from next renewal but this feels almost like blackmail, even at the reduced rate it will more than double my UK2 bill. I'm not happy, but can't see how to get even !
Is anyone aware of anyone that still offers the combination of specific redirection + catch remainder ?0 -
Just spotted that the uk2 faq still refers to free email diversion.
http://help.uk2.net/faq/emaildiversion/whatisemaildiversion.html
With our FREE unlimited EmailDiversion all e-mail that arrives for your domain like smith@yourdomain.co.uk or john@yourdomain.co.uk etc. will be delivered to a mailbox? of your choice.
Feels like trading standards might be worth a go, anyone tried ?0 -
Also says here free email forwarding (for up to five). So this all seems a bit confusing.
I have three domains registered with them and use one mainly as a personal email forwarded to my isp. I'm now considering changing to another company.
Ive noticed 1and1 offer free email forwarding. Does anyone have any experience of using them long term?
Thanks
