SOA for the OR

Hi guys!
I've had a letter through from the OR to put an IPA in place for £156. I worried I might have missed something on my statement, or maybe not put the amounts at the maximum possible. For example, I'm claiming £8 a month for hair - I actually spend far closer to £40 a month, so I'm interested in getting what I can for this one. Yes, a lot, but I have afro hair and its chemically treated at £70 every 8 weeks. The rest is for specialist afro hair products. (I really wish it was less expensive being a girl!)
So, my income is approx £1,322
Rent, including council tax and bills/council tax: £600
Houskeeping, including food and clothing £200
Telephone (Mobile) £35
Oyster card: £100
Clothing: £20
Pension: £97
Internet £6
Hair £8
Dentistry £5
Total: 1071 = surplus of £251
Hmm, not sure how I've got an IPA of £156.

Could you include anything for opticial expenses? Or pet expenses?0
-
And what about life insurance? House insurance? TV licence? Car expenses?
Any of these a help?0 -
Hiya
no house insurance/house insurance/car, though I am having driving lessons. TV license is included in the rent.
All good suggestions though!BCSC Member 70:j

I also have 20/20 vision, which peeves me off as I have a thing for glasses. ;-)
No pets either, sadly.BCSC Member 70:j

Not giving up yet...your internet cost seems very low. Can you up that one?
I thought broadband was usually around £15 - £20 per month min.0 -
Hobbies and holidays?
Maybe you could incorporate the cost of driving lessons in the hobby/holidays if either of these are allowed.0 -

Does the OR have to know you don't have a pet or wear glasses. Maybe the pet thing might be pushing it, but surely optical costs can be included, you MUST buy sunglasses from time to time?
Can you tell I like a challenge!0 -
From another site.... Not entirely sure if this is official, but your £156 IPA looks about right. This is a table of IPA percentages that you can expect to pay on any surplus income:

Neko, I suggest you have a look at a couple of forums besides this one to get an idea of what other people have included in their SOAs. A good forum is this one - you might find the SOA under "I & E" or "statement of affairs" instead. The reason I suggest this is because the first SOA I did was woefully inaccurate. It was only when I looked at others plus looked through at least 6 months of bank statements that I remembered things like the TV licence - quarterly payments are harder to spot/remember than the monthly ones. Also, sometimes there are things that you regularly have to pay for in cash that you forget because they don't show up on any statements.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Internet £6can't you up this to £15 (fairly standard amount
Hair £8definately say £20-25 and you can explain why
Dentistry/opticians £5I'd put £20here
Total: 1071 = surplus of £251

Hi Neko, Everyone should have their eyes regularly checked (glaucoma etc, so I would put at least £10-15 per month)
Dentistry is well expensive as well(if you need an emergency appointment here it cost £50 just for the consultation, so I reckon you could up that) I put them together on mine.
You could also include £15 per month for damage to rented property not included in rent.
I also put emergencies/birthdays/holidays I would have thought you could put £30-40 here.
I can't see any travel (or is that the oyster?)
Also you haven't got an amount for prescriptions/medical, I think you could probably put £10-15 for that.
Hope that helps.
