My current contract with O2 is over shortly, I have been with them many years, and am out of the country until next month to try to renegotiate my replacement. Currently have a BB Curve, fancying an iPhone 5. The current deals on O2 are only offering 1gb data, loads of calls & text, but don't need alrge amounts of either. Cannot decide whether to buy a iPhone outright and then go the sim only route as not been too pleased with reception at times when travelling, cannot go Vodafone as does not give me a signal at home. Any thoughts.
Another question is I want to get my husband a touch screen 'phone, he is not a big 'phone user, and it would be a PAYG can anyone recommend one with a decent camera, that is relatively easy to use?

You may as well buy the handset outright, this customer loyalty thing banded about on here is often by attention seekers, which network have you read about closing down because the customer left after not getting a retention deal?
And besides, the ip5 will not be a unit they offer cheaply and I'm sure you are already aware of that.
As for your husbands choice, all handsets are easy to use (have you ever noticed nobody gives an example as to what is difficult on a handset?)
The Sony Tipo/Miro (always get them confused) or the Xperia Ray have decent cameras and can be purchased at not to great a premium.0 -
In terms of the total amount over 18-24 months iPhone 5 will be considerably more expensive on a contract than sim-free + sim-only. Good sim-only tariffs start from £7. Check Virgin Mobile (EE) and '3'. Beware that EE are in deep mess ATM.
Re your OH, I don't see much point in using a touchscreen phone for taking photos mainly. However, if you insist, see http://www.omio .com/deals/pay-as-you-go .
Use filters in the tabs and select 'touchscreen' and 5+ Mp.0 -
Is the iPhone 5 offering much over the 4s?Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club

Thanks Grumbler
So to buy from Apple, the difference is around £80, and a bigger screen, to my inexpert view. But I would imagine the 5 will hold its value longer. Maybe keep looking for an Apple refurb, to see what prices they offer, none on their refurb site atm. The other real plus is the sim size. I cannot swop a sim around with the 5, if it away it is always an option to put my main sim in DH's phone.
My other consideration is size, as my eyes are not as young as they once were close up. I treat myself to an iPad in August and really pleased with it, while always being a PC rather than an Apple girl, I was sceptical at first, but with our son going the Apple route, and he being our main contact due to working in London when we are not, is why I am tempted the Apple route for the phone. Using it not an issue for me as I adapt to new/different technology fast. The biggest issue with the BB is the screen size, I thought I would hate a touch screen keyboard, being a touch typist, but the iPad convinced me otherwise. The BB's no longer appeal.
I take your point with DH, but I have to drag him up to date somehow, he's a bit of a technophobe, and the camera thing is my way. Like the phones you suggest. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
