    Hi Swampmonster,

There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

    Hi

I've had a quick search but can't find anything on the topic, however I know people do this.

I am interested in converting full fat milk into skimmed. Is it as simple as buying one pint of full fat, pouring it into a 4 pint bottle and filling it up with water, or is there more to it than that? Are there taste/fridge life/usage limitations to doing this?

    Thanks xx

  • I'll add this to Watering down milk later ;) Do remember that you'll be diluting down the vitamins and minerals aswell as the fat.

Making skimmed milk is when you remove fat from the milk, not about water content. The problem with diluting milk with water is that you are also diluting the calcium content, so only do so if you get enough calcium from other sources.

    Hi

Have posted elsewhere but will just add to this thread now Penelope has pointed it out.

So - I want to "make" skimmed milk. It's just for cereal and tea, not for nutritional purposes at all as we barely have any milk anyway. This is not for children but for 2 adults. Will 1 pint of milk make 4 of skimmed? Or is it not as exact as that?

    Thanks guys

  • I have watered my milk down for years and the family hasn't noticed but I don't do half and half I just put in about a quarter and it is quite palatable. I have a tin of evaporated milk for emergencies for when I can't get out.
If you have a microwave try cooking a meal in that also cooking on the hob is a lot cheaper than using the oven. If you have to cook in the oven use every bit of space to make extras like cakes, rice pud or biccies.
Bless you I hope all goes well and if you lived in my town you could come round for a warm and a hot meal xx
