DH and I don't buy each other anything. We've got everything we need anyway, and if there's a book or DVD we want we just tend to buy it. We do tend to splurge a bit with mini breaks, day trips and holidays, which are our way of treating ourselves, so we'll probably go somewhere nice in lieu of Christmas and our joint February birthdays sometime in the new year.

I've got dh so far tickets to see the jersey boys and hotel going to make a weekend of it. It has cost a small fortune but worth it to see the look on his face, I've also got him a Edwin jagger traditional razor and brush set, again a little pricey but its both practical and it'll look good in the bathroom.

I'm determined not to buy him clothes or anymore DVDs but still want to get him a few little wrap ups.
  • 2 games from steam
gym stuff (idea from Kyliexjx! :) p.s where did you get the gym bag from?)
    -small towel
    -deep heat
    -socks
-muscle relaxing bubble bath (doesnt have a shower!)
    -magazine subscription
    -body spray
    ghostbusters t-shirt
    wallet
    beatles mug
an oreo/cadburys choc bar (he's currently obsessed with them)
    usb stick
and if i can afford it i'm getting him a gaming mouse too

I gt the gym bag from soccer sports (along with other bits and pieces - quite handy in there for that stuff! ). It's an air walk one with a robot kinda cartoon character on it - sounds kiddy ish but it looks good - almost like graffiti art. It was really cheap - maybe 3 quid? It's a drawstring one so handy for when he only has a few bits to take.

He's already got a full on gym bag - like a large one - it's a Lonsdale one, fairly new, and I'm almost certain that's from soccer sports too x
  • Well we go a little crazy at christmas due to the fact our family is crap when it comes to getting presents that even have 1 seconds worth of thought put in to it. BUT this year is different our budget is £50 each.

I am never stuck as to what to buy him as I get him upgrades of everything he has got, (i am lucky my other half has a job where he must look extremely well polished too) however he is not into gadgets at all so... here are the items I have got him in the past

    - very expensive pen
    - cartridges for this expensive pen etc
    - very expensive diaries
    - agenda holder
    - framed photographs of the area he grew up in the 50s (he is very nostalgic!)
    - books on secret tunnels and war photography
    - stays in expensive hotels (this was one of the best as it culminated in a hilarious night of using a hot tub in the middle of a gale!)
    - cufflinks
    - ties
    - shirts
    - suit hankerchiefs
    - signed football shirts of his favourite players
    - shoes
    - posh shoe cleaning kit with extra bits
    - valet stand
    - stereo that plays taps and vinyl
    - designer socks/boxers/belts/clothes from his favourite brands
    - sunglasses
    - american candy
    - display cabinet for all his collected bits
    - collar bones for his shirts
    - old fashioned shaving kit set
    - gentlemen's grooming kit (kept borrowing my nail clippers!)
    - aftershave
    - cds that i know he has lost or got damaged or rare albums from random countries that were not released here
    - pure silver photoframe with a picture of me inside from our first holiday
    - maker approved "extras" for his car - special mats etc
    - DAB digital radio
    - computer games (all football ones)
    - handmade glass Christmas ornaments
    - flowers delivered to his work (think he really loved it actually, looked good infront of his mates after they teased him a bit...
    - cushion for his spot on the sofa (he was commplaining he wasnt getting enough support)
    - football programmes
    - as much as i could afford sports gear, tennis rackets, balls, special edition footballs etc

present ideas i have in mind for future celebrations

    - leather bag
    - scarf
    - posh desk tidy (pref 1930s)

I nearly died thinking this was everything you bought this year .... Lol! Some really good ideas though - how did you get the signed football shirt?

Had a nice idea today for a small tat present ( I have decided Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without some tat! But this is going to be very cheap so it's fine !) in bnm bargains they have packs of 4 small Xmas stockings. I'm going to fill one of them for home with some old fashioned toys I found in a new shop in Bolton called cloud - similar to a Hawkins bazaar. They have the little planes you build ( they are wrapped in blue paper and the pieces you put together are polystyrene type matrial if anyone remembers). They also have the little paper bomb things ( the ones you throw on the floor and they bang) the things you throw at the window and they climb down it etc. all these items were like 50p each and he will love them as will my younger brothers X
  • My god men are hard to buy for... I never really appreciated it until now, thought it was just one of those things that people say! Having lived my whole adult life until now with female partners I am totally at a loss as to what I should be buying for my boyfriend
The usual 'I don't want anything' and 'if I want it I'd probably have bought it by now' scenario!

So far I've come up with clothes, and a book called something like '1001 science questions answered' - I'm a science lecturer and he must ask me about 1001 questions a week, most of which I either don't know the answer to or don't know how to explain!

So that should shut him up for a bit :rotfl:

    lol, my OH wishes!

signed football shirts, either specialist sports shops which you would need to look up or fleabay.. look for sellers that have hundreds of sales and go over board to 1) guarantee authenticity 2) copyright their images 3) are a member of the official signature gatherer people (cant quite remember who they are, I think america is COA... )

i have found some stuff of very old players that i would not be able to find elsewhere also EVERYTHING is haggable especially if you are going to buy more than 1 of their items

what is nice is some of them will offer framing services.. but you can buy these off amazon for half the price and do it yourself

I love your tat idea, i did something very similar last Christmas and got him a ridiculously childish stocking and filled it with sweets, jokes and toys.

I am good at thinking of presents for men, so if you want some suggestions just post what their interests are and I will be happy to try and help

My DH's getting the Fast and furious box set, some chocolate and a PS3 game. He also wants a Blu Ray player for his computer (total computer geek :D)

I am tempted to also make and wrap up one of the survival bracelets I make in his team colours but as he's already seen them im not sure he would appreciate the thought :rotfl:

We set a £50 limit for eachother each year which allows us to focus on our kids and families - we already have everything we could possibly need for ourselves and don't believe in overspending for the sake of it. Instead we'd both rather get small token gifts that have had a lot of thought put into them. OH loves unwrapping lots of small pressies so most years I get bits & pieces from his Amazon wish list - CD's, books, etc then socks, chocolate, his favourite biscuits, underwear, things he would never buy for himself. I've gone off-piste this year and bought him a Fitbit (£49 in John Lewis) to stop him nicking my pedometer! It appeals to his current fitness trend plus his love of gadgets and new things to do on his computer! :D

Mine's getting a bunch of tat in his stocking (including the Smurfs Christmas CD, a glorious charity shop find), some bits for the Wii, a couple of books and DVDs, a warm top and a banjo.
