  • Well we go a little crazy at christmas due to the fact our family is crap when it comes to getting presents that even have 1 seconds worth of thought put in to it. BUT this year is different our budget is £50 each.

I am never stuck as to what to buy him as I get him upgrades of everything he has got, (i am lucky my other half has a job where he must look extremely well polished too) however he is not into gadgets at all so... here are the items I have got him in the past

    - very expensive pen
    - cartridges for this expensive pen etc
    - very expensive diaries
    - agenda holder
    - framed photographs of the area he grew up in the 50s (he is very nostalgic!)
    - books on secret tunnels and war photography
    - stays in expensive hotels (this was one of the best as it culminated in a hilarious night of using a hot tub in the middle of a gale!)
    - cufflinks
    - ties
    - shirts
    - suit hankerchiefs
    - signed football shirts of his favourite players
    - shoes
    - posh shoe cleaning kit with extra bits
    - valet stand
    - stereo that plays taps and vinyl
    - designer socks/boxers/belts/clothes from his favourite brands
    - sunglasses
    - american candy
    - display cabinet for all his collected bits
    - collar bones for his shirts
    - old fashioned shaving kit set
    - gentlemen's grooming kit (kept borrowing my nail clippers!)
    - aftershave
    - cds that i know he has lost or got damaged or rare albums from random countries that were not released here
    - pure silver photoframe with a picture of me inside from our first holiday
    - maker approved "extras" for his car - special mats etc
    - DAB digital radio
    - computer games (all football ones)
    - handmade glass Christmas ornaments
    - flowers delivered to his work (think he really loved it actually, looked good infront of his mates after they teased him a bit...
    - cushion for his spot on the sofa (he was commplaining he wasnt getting enough support)
    - football programmes
    - as much as i could afford sports gear, tennis rackets, balls, special edition footballs etc

present ideas i have in mind for future celebrations

    - leather bag
    - scarf
    - posh desk tidy (pref 1930s)

I usually get him loads of clothes, aftershave, skincare products, a few silly things from firebox.com, stocking fillers, generally spend a fortune but this year we've set a £50 limit so i've started buying stuff to make your own gingerbread house. I was going to buy a book on how to do it but I can only really find one, on amazon £29.99 which is a lot out the budget.

I've got the Fairytale Cottage mould from Lakeland (http://www.lakeland.co.uk/16789/Fairy-Tale-Cottage-Mould) and it has recipes on the back. If you want something to give him decorating ideas could you find some pictures of gingerbread houses online, print them and then do a collage on a piece of card and laminate it? Or, as another poster said, there is a nice one on the front of the BBC Good Food magazine - £3.70 is better than £30 :D

Grhhh, it is the other way around in our house and I have already been asked `tell me what you want for christmas, I have no idea` and this happens year after year and also for birthdays. What the heck is wrong with a nice surprise like a watch, or a nice scarf and I cannot tell you the number of times I have bought my own present for him to wrap

I am getting my dh a good pair of lined leather gloves this year, often it is cycling gear or something like a kindle

Stupid point I know - but ask him and discuss where you both stand! Me and the OH have agreed a budget of £50 each because we live together, own our house and are saving for a wedding and all our possessions are "joint" anyway so we don't want to just clutter the place up for no reason.

He's getting some nice toiletries and some sports bits that he wouldn't normally treat himself to.

  • Hoping to get him the Harry Potter bluray boxet but will have to wait until nearer the time and see if I have any money left over. Will definitely get the little bits like Haribo, tshirt, Lynx set and his stocking. :)

I live by the motto that anything with a plug is not a Christmas gift. I found this out a few years ago when i got her a very expensive Dolce Gusto coffee machine - the look on her face!!

However, this year i have been told GHD's are ok!!!!!

This year she is getting a pearl jewellery set; necklace and ear-rings.

I'm giving her a pearl necklace *sniggers*

This year OH and I have a £25 limit (saving for a wedding so reduced our spending by a lot), anyway, I got him an iPhone controlled helicopter which cost just over £28 with postage. I also got him a trimmer for his stubble as the one he has is old and rips the hair out rather than trimming it, this is off the kids and I used a £10 argos voucher I had so only cost £10, no doubt I'll get in to trouble for getting it though.

    Hi everyone!

Just wondering what you guys were thinking of buying your partners this year?

We usually do one main present and a couple of surprises but he doesnt know what he wants as his main present and I'm also struggling for ideas. I've already done him a gym hamper and so have about £100 to play with.

He gets clothes off family, loves football but already has a season ticket. He already has all the latest gadgets such as an iPod iPhone tablet etc.

I always find men so difficult to buy for! I could easily spend 100 on tat but I don't really want to do that!

What are you ladies buying your partners and what's gone down well in previous years? To all the guys reading- what's on your Xmas wish list?

    Thank you! X

What about a retro football shirt for his team I got my DH one last year and he loves it they even put a name on the back if you wish
