What benefits would a single mother get?

Well I'm not a newbie and I thought Mara's post was uncalled for ......as for not reporting posts you disagree with. I disagree with most posters who put the boot in for no constructive reason except to make THEM feel better about their limited and sad lives .......and sometimes I do report them. So shoot me <shrug>I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Good point. The OP will need to look on her council's website for their changes.
From the thread on here before, most councils' only seem to want a contribution toward the council tax, not the full amount.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

If i was rude then i apologise, but regardless of only joining 10 days ago i do not have newbie next to my user name and the OP does so please forgive the confusion.
I did actually post this 'thing is when you have children and you are in danger of losing your job you don't think 'oh it's ok i have kids i'll get loads of benefits' well most wouldn't, they'd panic!' I realise that goes against the commonly held opinion that those with kids just want to milk the system, but i don't happen to believe that's true, I think that someone about to lose their job would panic about providing for their kids and that is why i believe slamming someone with those concerns down is wrong.Love many, trust few, learn to paddle your own canoe.
“Don’t have children if you can’t afford them” is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter how children got here, they need and deserve to be fed.0 -

OP
Now you know financially if worst comes to worst you'll be OK - I'd pop a new thread on the employment section Re your redundancy and notice situation.
I read it that they are saying Jan is the last date due to redundancy? that is good (for benefits reasons). Forcing you to resign and YOU to give notice (it should be them) isn't.
Unless you can clarify that they have given the notice and not you then start a new thread on there where HR people post to give you help with this.
If you resign (Ie YOU give notice) then you stand to lose some benefits.0 -
Well you might be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks.
Luckily having children means that you'll be quids in
How is this offensive?
It's factual and based on the generous benefits paid to Lone Parents. Op is lucky she has children or she'd struggle.
A bit of perspective is needed here. It's not digging at OP for claiming, or saying she shouldn't claim, or degrading her or doing anything negative.0 -

I am going to struggle as i am already in financial difficulty and I wont be able to pay my bills without a monthly figure coming in.
My wokr are trying to get me to resign hence the letter they left me on the desk saying they are honouring my notice. Which I didnt give. They have effectively twisted my words in the meeting and are tryign to get me to say i have given notice. I have emailed them and stated I have not given notice and if they need to restructure then they will have to make me redundant.
So will be interesting to see what happens next. Suspect they will try and give me a severence package or try to force my hand to say i have given notice.
Either way I am petrified I have a mortgage and dont beleive I would be able to manage on benefits either.0
