We love Balderdash, but you do need at least four players.0

How about crib (cribbage), they may be too young to be aware of it, but may also know older rellies that love the game.
Very competitive, uses the grey matter, and very British.
Letting slip you can play crib is kudos in certain circles - I knew a best mate for around 3+ years before we both got round to mentioning how we both liked a game, then it was crib every Saturday, 5p a hole to the winner.;)
One for his nob!!!
Hey! I'm in my 30s and was taught crib as a kid and played it regularly ever since 15,2; 15, 4:D
OH and I love ticket to ride - bit of strategy, collecting cards to build journeys from one train station to another.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Uno is always a good, vicious, game - even for two players.

Basically it's the opposite of monopoly when you need to lose all your money to win (start with 1 million?) Iirc there was a mini casino in the middle of the board to gamble on. Otherwise the premise was very similar to monopoly.
I have't played it for many years bur remember it to be a lot of fun.0 -
The Logo Board Game there's a link on Grabbit where you can get it for £12.50 instead of £30ish.

I don't mind a game of scrabble, but only my mum also likes to play - and she's phenomenal at it and anything wordy. Getting thrashed on every game isn't a lot of fun!
I think the following character was based on her -
