Ryanair Cash Passport no longer bypasses admin fee!!!

Options
Don`t know if this is old news but just received this email. Not good news for people like me that fly a lot with Ryanair :(

Dear Cardholder,

Firstly we would like to thank you for purchasing a Ryanair Cash Passport card. We have seen thousands of our cardholders benefit from the offer of avoiding the admin fee charge on Ryanair.com since the launch of the card on 1st October 2011. We thank you for your continued support.

It is with regret that we write to inform you that, as a result of decisions by the UK Office of Fair Trading, Ryanair Cash Passport card users will no longer benefit from avoiding the £6 admin fee for transactions made on Ryanair.com from 1st December 2012. While we are disappointed at this development, Ryanair is obliged to honour the decisions of the UK Office of Fair Trading.

We are committed to providing you, the cardholder, with further updates on card promotions and intend on notifying you shortly on our planned changes in the card offering.

  • Got the email today and a bit miffed. What gets me the most is that should I now wish to cancel the card I would supposedly have to pay their cash out fee?

The card's inactivity fee kicks in after 6 months of not being used (£2.50) or 50p for the privilege of buying something in the UK - so basically the main point of the having the card has now gone.

Does anyone know if the cash out fee can be avoided as I guess everyone bought it to avoid the Ryanair admin fees?
  • When I got the email earlier today, I too was miffed. I thought I might be able to cancel my Cash Passport under the 14-day cooling-off period ... sadly, this expired 2 days ago!

However (and I think you'll be interested in this NotSoFast), if you check the User Guide T&C you'll see that section 9.2 could be our friend! It states:

"We will notify you of changes at least two (2) months before the change is implemented. If you are dissatisfied with any change, you can end the Agreement by contacting Card Services. You understand and agree that you will be deemed to have accepted the changes, unless you notify Card Services to the contrary before they come into force."

So i) the email sent round on 2 November is NOT two months' notice, as the change is due to be implemented on 1 December; and ii) we're being given until 30 November to contact Card Services and tell 'em we don't accept the proposed change.

Now ... for the Card Services contact details (see section 16.3)

"We can be contacted using the details in the 'Contact details' section of the User Guide, or by writing to Card Services, Access Prepaid Worldwide Ltd, Worldwide House, Thorpe Wood, Peterborough, PE3 6SB, England"

I reckon recorded delivery might be a good idea ... they could have a lot of correspondence to deal with in the next month or so!

    NB ... also of interest:

"16.4 Any notice sent by either party under these Terms and Conditions (i) by email, shall be deemed given on the day the email is sent, unless the sending party received an electronic indication that the email was not delivered; and if (ii) by post, shall be deemed given three (3) business days after the date of posting."

This backs up the fact they haven't given sufficient notice in the first place.
  • Have read everything I could find about Raphael's Terms & Conditions, but couldn't find how much is "their cash out fee".

    Any clues?
  • £6. It's there in the Fees list.

I don't think this is a change to the CARD's t&c's - I can't find anything in them that says you avoid the ryanair flight admin/payment fees, so I don't think this gives us a right to cancel.

I have always been careful to load the right amount to pay for my flights plus £2 (ATM withdrawal fee) plus whatever it takes to leave a multiple of £10 to do a cash withdrawal. That way I pay £2 each time I book a flight, but never leave any money at all sitting in the card.

Now I guess in common with a lot of other people I do not want the card any more because of the 6 month inactivity fee, and I don't want to cashout and pay £6 (there's less than £1 on the card), frankly I'm happy to close and lose the balance.

I'm going to try simply terminating the agreement, which it says can be done by post or email.

I simply used the balance to pay off my electric/gas bill and paid the 50p charge!!!
I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.

Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!

You can reload any amount by bank transfer (even say £3.23).

Bank Details Beneficiary: Access Prepaid Worldwide Ltd
    Bank: Barclays
    Sort Code: 20-32-53
    Account Number: 63807568
Reference: Your 16 digit Ryanair Cash Passport card number (on the front of your Card)
    http://www.cashpassport.com/1/en/Ryanair/Reloading/

On Saturday I loaded £5 onto the card. It took 3 hours to load.

I'm gonna cancel mine as soon as possible, can't see the point of keeping it.. I just got it to avoid the Ryanair fees, and I only fly with them once or twice a year now...

Has anyone managed to cancel yet?
