VP's DH's boss took my breath away. The cheek of the man! "Come in and work for nothing to make me look better.."
My daughter has the man flu bug, but was at work today. I had the smallest sniffle and bit of throat soreness the other week, hope that's it done with for me. It usually is.
Ald! opened on the town today, with free cloth bags, free trolley tokens, free samples of cake and chocolate and 25 minute queues for the checkouts.
Five checkouts open, help with bag packing (no, I've never seen that in an Ald! either) and a "Oooh, you're DD's Mam!" from some the staff, as she works in the store many of them have been transferred/seconded from.
The cupboards are a lot fuller now. Next week I shall buy carefully, stocking up for Chrimbo. I'm so pleased that I've been extra -frugal in recent weeks as it meant I didn't feel guilty slipping in a few treats today.
I popped in and though I did not buy much I was impressed by the choice and variety and it seems better than the others I have tried. I think it should do well...agree with all you say...when the freezer is not as full I will replace with a lot of what Aldi is selling. I misplaced my tokenbut it has to be in the house because that was when I found it and I have not been out since...

Popperwell & Mccolloch:- Great it's finally opened, seems like a long time since you both started to get excited about it. I do like shopping in ours, mind you, it's far busier than it used to be! I like going about 9-10 am because there are a lot of 50% off stickers to be found then!
Danetastic:- You should have the Christmas you want to have, with the animals/humans you want to be with!
Bossymoo:- By my reckoning you are coming up to a major anniversary soon,:( I hope you, your children and your lovely in-laws get through ok and can start to look forward again.:grouphug:
Popperwell:- Love the Gandhi quote in your signature.:)Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
OK, I did it, Christmas has been purchased. MIL was more than fine about it (she saw me toddle leftwards in a dizzy spin at one point and I've been clutching my side as that seems to be a new pain spot, so I wonder if that...er... helped?).
I got a Christmas pudding, 2 packs of mince pies and a Christmas cake (uniced and recently drowned in whisky.... and probably going to get drowned a few more times), for the Christmas day do, then another pack of mince pies, a mini Chrissie pud and a diddy pannetone for here. The cake is square though, so I'll ice half to take on the day, the other half I'll divide again into two, ice and then have a piece at home and give a piece to an elderly neighbour for a gift. *phew*
With a few more bits nearer the time (also to be bought predone) I'm done.
Thank you all for letting me know it was ok, and for assuaging my guilt.
It wasn't even as expensive as I'd thought overall. But certainly not the usual OS price. Still, we'll have toast a few meals, noodles a couple more and make it up.

Morning Meme:)
I hope you have a great day, I feel quite positive myself...my hospital check up went quite well yesterday but I thought I was around 8st in weight and I have lost weight but though the consultant is happy and says I am fine, I actually weigh...10st 7lbs:o:eek:I don't look that heavy and with eating less and good food I thought "No Way!" I am not putting it on at least...the steroids don't help...
It is a great store and I cannot help but think it is going to do well...they have squeezed so much into the building I don't know how they've done it!
we have also a new little shop close by that is called Grandma's Choices and it too is selling branded/unbranded items(mainly cakes and biscuits)at lower prices. They are also selling their own big bottles of bio washing machine liquid(140 washes)for £7.50 and other household cleaning products...we need more such retailers here.
This has also encouraged some more shops opening soon(don't know what they are going to sell)but next to Tesco's over the road from Aldi two units that have been there for years(unused)are in the process of being fitted out!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. I think you must have made a mistake, Kittie, no-one has colds worse than a man's!! :rotfl: Hope you feel better soon.
YOu can all keep your germs to yourselves - don't you go passing them on to me as I need to go to Korea next week. Hope everyone gets well again soon.
Lots of nasty bugs on planes at the moment so stock up on zinc lozenges and nose spray before you fly!0 -
Danetastic please allow me to share all the hugs I've been given on here lately. Try and do what's best for you. I say try as standing up to close family can be HARD (first hand experience here)
Weekend ahead and weather forecast is reasonable here. DH wants to take me out for the day tomorrow in our campervan, so am trying hard not to think about cost of deisel and what else the money could/should be spent on. Honestly, I so wish I could stop feeling guilty at the drop of a hat. Some days I am positive that global warming must be my fault
Has anyone tried the gingerbread recipe in the Wartime Farm book? It is seriously easy, fat and egg free and delicious. Is it OK for me to put it on here for anyone that would like it or would I be breaking forum rules or copyright laws? Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -
Sounds great Softstuff,
I'm not doing special Christmas stuff being alone but I will have a Christmas meal and the trimmings, a drink, something nice to follow and probably get a Christmas cake of some kind. Having these new shops in town will help keep the cost down but still offer quality.
Whisky cake, I saw one of those yesterday...I may treat myself to one as you have:)
I'm no scrooge and my building up of a food store, gadgets for the kitchen to save using the main oven and my investment in things to keep me warm etc...I now will invest money into staying warm.
Don't understand why as it has been colder(ice on the roads/ cars and roofs of the houses outside it has been less so indoors. If it stays that way even better...
I hope that you soon start to feel better, try and take it easy if you can. We all need a stress free Christmas and a peaceful start to the New Year..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

As long as you state where it's from JKJ then there's no problem as far as I'm aware. Thanks for the recommendation, i'll give it a whirl. I've not tried any of the recipes from in the book yet.
Morning. I've been up since 5am. I'm worrying about missing another days work because of a poorly DD. DH is coming home so I can get down there. Not at all ideal. DH suggested that if we do move not to look for a job for a while. It's bothering me because I missed harvest festival for both girls, I missed DD's achievement assembly and I'm going to miss both girls' Christmas performances. I still have mammy duties to do really and days like this add to my frantic thoughts.0 -

Thanks fuddle, when I get myself out of bed I will post the recipe. I sympathise with the children /work dilemma, sometimes feels a mum can't do right for doing wrong! I tried working evenings when my youngest 2 were small, but we only had one car and no childcare, DH was often late home trying to do the best at his job and I used to spend all day worrying about whether I would get to work on time or even at all. In the end the stress of it was too much and as we could live on DH salary if careful (and in no great style), we decided I was better off at home so I gave up the job. Hard decision for you so ((((((((Fuddle)))))))))Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -
Good mornig everyone, looks quite plesant outside. Have been awake since 430am, wanted to talkto OH before he left for work. Had to confess i have ordered a new tumble dryer to be delivered on saturday. He was ok about it, said we didnt have time to go to laundrette and he refuses to see my undies on the radiator in the living room. haha that so made me laugh.
DD is up feeling tired, but a bit better, kids are so resiliant.
Have work again today at 3, not that bad really. With a releif staff member so im hopring they have a sense of humour - if not 7 hours will seem like a life time.
Mr t sent me some vouchers today, thankyou very much. OH fills the works van up there so i get clubcard points. Failing going there he goes to mr M or MrS. It seems to be quite a profitable perk of the job!!
hope everyone is feeling better/ more positive today xBSC member 137
