Hi everyone, just caught up after a another long day. And very eventful day too. DD went to the doctors, tummy pains. Sent to local hospital as an emergency at 930am. Doctors put canular inher hand, took blood she passed out and thenwas sick!! Laid out on a stretcher to recover. Doctor returns, all ok but we think you have the start of a bad stomach/gastroentoritus. If no better in 2 days come back. We go home, took DD to my mums to stay there, went to work 1 hour late.
Walkedin, got told gld your staying as its the best news!!omg!! Had a busy afternoon then boom, no one in from 730, so was very naughty and ordered a pizza with collegue - £2 each.

So now im totally pooped. DD is fast asleep. as is OH lol

    Night everyone. x

I am still around and slowly trying to catch up. Just be patient while I make my way through the thread and type very slowly so I have a sporting chance of catching you up.
My body and brain have now parted company so I'm going to bed.
    'Night all.

The year that Father Christmas clubbed together with us parents and brought DDs a games console beginning with W was the first Christmas that dinner wasn't served on time...or on the right day.

I always prep everything the day before and the meat gets cooked then too so it's pretty straightforward on the day..........if you don't get so engrossed in playing silly games and forget to put the food in the oven that is.

DD1 piped up at one stage and said "is dinner nearly ready, I'm so hungry" and the moment of realisation dawned....oven on? Yes, food prepped? Yes......food in oven? Bum!

    We had toast.

And had Christmas dinner on boxing day instead.

    :D

    LOVE IT :T:rotfl::T

Danetastic - My 'single' friend was on her own last Christmas and I asked if she wanted to come to us rather than being on her own for the first time in a number of years. She said that if I didn't mind she would quite like being on her own and being able to choose what and when she ate and what she watched on TV etc., and hoped I wouldn't be offended. I wasn't and we both had a good Christmas. Not sure if this helps you at all, but I hope you can find some way to tell them what you want to do and don't get pressured into doing what other people want. :)

missrlr - Sending you lots of hugs. Hope you get a good sleep.

Danetastic, just wanted to say, if you have the black dog your problems are not insignificant and any way on here we dont grade problems, we are all here for each other for each other. And I love Danes by the way. A friend always had one or two and I fell for them big time, however I would love an Irish wolf hound myself and firmly promise myself that one day I will get one.

Finally found a recipe for a light fruit cake that doesnt take much time or money, have been searching and trying out recipes for ages. I soaked the fruit in tea and nearly, very nearly mixed the fruit and used teabag into the cake :rotfl:

scored a major bargain in Mr T today, was looking for the spreadable butter type stuff and the cheapest was their own brand at £1.49, wasnt impressed and hadnt tried it before so was wary. Then in the ys section I spyed 4 packs of YUM with olive oil which I bought once on offer when it came out. They were 45p each, I was so excited I text OH to tell him the news, he wasnt particularly impressed as he was in the library, where I left him, and his phone was on 'extra loud for ratty deaf hubbys' :o

  • Sorry to hear that things are tight and tough for people - coughs / colds / crazy bosses etc whatever, it is we'll win through!

Agree with some of the other posters, when it comes to Christmas less is more, ie the less the expectation is the more you enjoy it.

Back in the day Christmas with my folks used to be a right palava, "father christmas (for "kids" in their twenties) stockings at the end of the bed, huge breakfast, massive dinner (beef, ham AND Turkey) walks, games, piles of presents then another influx of people for tea!

Turned out that by the end everyone overate , over drank, over tired and over done so these days things are a lot more chilled; mainly as thanks to my other half we now get two Christmases - Lithuanian on Christmas eve and the "Full English" on Christmas day

The other half grew up in Lithuania when Christmas isn't so much of a big deal (mainly as it was basically "banned" by the soviets) so a hearty Lithuanian dinner on Christmas Eve Evening to celebrate and honor the ancestors (apparently traditionally you would leave the food out for the dead relatives for them to have a party while you went to bed, then pick up the party with friends later) though the leftover salads (and the ghosts) go straight in the fridge for later.

Christmas day we have a long lie in, slice of toast a lazy lunch, small simple presents, salad and sandwiches for tea, cheese and crackers and snoozing in front of the fire - and all the better for it.

I'm all for simple; home made / out of the packet / whatever! - at least then you have a chance to enjoy it rather than feel like a chorus member in a slightly tepid opera! :D

Yes I'm glad I have a job I love tho we are all being redeployed and as yet don't know where I'll be working . We have been told we will all have jobs but the ones we are offered could be " take it or leave" . The uncertainty doesn't help and rumour mills are busy busy busy. Hate the not knowing and also don't know when we will be told . Worried that I'll end up somewhere I hate . Tho in these times having a job well ....
