I'm not a happy bunny!!!!! The lurcher and I have just been for our afternoon walk/swim and having kitted up with waterproof trousers, coat etc. I now find that my winter boots, purchased at no inconsiderable cost from Messrs Clarks Shoe Company LEAK!!!!!! They have a moccassin type band round the body of the shoe and the perishing stitching wicks rain in like billy oh, why do manufacturers not make waterproof boots? it's not as if they are fashion items, it surely cannot be that hard to do??? Mrs Lurchwalker, hope you don't mind me replying as I haven't posted for ages, but I would take the boots back to Clarkes and tell them that you expected them to be waterproof at that price. A firm with their reputation should give you a refund. Esther xSecond purse £101/100

Thanks ESTHER nice to hear from you again, the boots were purchased at the end of the summer and I've worn them right through the cold weather with no problems but never in the rain,I usually wear wellies. It didn't seem too heavy today so I kept the boots on, mistake!!!!! I really should have thought about the stitching letting in the water, I don't think they would do anything if I did take them back to the shop. I'll know better next time, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Afternoon all,
Thank you for putting up with me and for all your support. Don't know what I would do without you all, you are all wonderful. :A
Woke up today on a real downer but determined to turn it around. Sent an email to my sister, copied parents in to reply to her message about the wedding. I said I was pleased for them, wished them luck with planning etc, just politely pleasant nothing more. I also said I was taking a break from them all - told them I needed to and also said hoped that it would also allow them to get on with wedding planning in peace and without distraction. Pleased with what I said, stated my needs and considered theirs.
Not even sure if we are invited yet anyway, they did say when they got engaged 5 years ago, they would marry abroad. Bound to be a family get together in UK too even if they do that but won't seem as bad to decline if that's the case. Not making a decison yet anyway, wait and see what pans out. DH said if they were that bothered about us coming they could have tried listening to me all this time. He has a valid point. Realised they must have been planning for a while as my sister has been on a diet for quite a while and she never sticks a diet usually.
Anyway I am now contact free from "that lot" for a while so :j and am drawing a line under it for now
so now for some GOOD news....
We have finally decided upon and booked a summer holiday for the four of us today. We have never managed a proper week away (ie not staying with/at family or friends) and eldest DS will be 9 soon so its a really big deal for us all.
We are going away for TWO whole weeks in summer school hols, staying in a farm cottage in northumbria, near Alnwick, a mile's walk from the beach. Staying in a gorgeous stone cottage, log fire, own big garden and on the edge of a farm. Decent supermarket reasonable distance away so we can self cater and just have a couple of cheap meals out (no romantic ones with 2 young lads anyway!) We found out about it through our fav relatives (yes we have some we like :rotfl:wished they lived nearer) who have stayed there several times. Works out nearly half the price of similar in the big name brochures - thats how we can afford 2 weeks instead of 1.
To say I am excited is an understatement! Showed boys the website and they are over the moon too. Something to look forward to (week after the wedding too) and will get me motivated to shift some weight.
off to collect my boys from town

SQ I feel like Tigger for you - bouncing up and down. I think your email was excellent.:T
Big cheer for your holiday too - isn't where you're going near 'Hogwarts' Castle? If so I saw something on TV a while ago about a lovely tree house in the grounds - I bet all 3 'lads' would enjoy that :beer:Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
SQ you're part of us, we don't 'put up' with you, you're an integral part of our world here and we care about you. I'm really glad for you that you have been able to start to address the problems with your family, it's a really hard thing to do, so much respect and admiration to you for having achieved the first step in that direction. I'm also really happy for you that you are going to have a wonderful holiday in a beautiful place this summer, just you go and enjoy every second of it, you've more than earned it, Good girl, proud of you, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Wot Lyn said, SQ. Lyn, I would still take the boots back, if they are winter boots and leak they are not 'fit for purpose'.
Alnwick is LOVELY! Alnwick Castle is great - there's the Alnwick Garden too.
Huge Northumberland beaches for the kids to run about on, lots of little shops, lovely peaceful Holy Island to visit (don't miss out on the mead) and lots of places of interest in general.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
If you're in this neck of the woods, Beamish is well worth a visit.

Mrs LW you put things so beautifully.
Sq well done you! I know these things are hard to do but its bl**dy brave of you, and you will love Northumbria. we went on a short break 3 years ago -ish and it was wonderful, everything from the food, the sights, the sea and the people. I ticked one off my bucket list too and went to the Angel of the North - I was teary eyed as I never thought I would get there. We went in October (i think) and it was a heatwave, fab!
We are hoping for a short break in the next week or so but depends on Hubbys health so cross your fingers for us.Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0
