We've got hellish wind and torrential rain, thank you to whoever sent it up here!
Alnwick is nice, Bamburgh castle is nice, Seahouses is nice. Try and do the Roman Wall when you're there - that is number 1 on my to-do list. I had one freezing cold April day at the Wall years ago and had to dragged back into the car. Holy Island was a huge disappointment for me - it was all moneymoney. And very busy. I'd like to do Iona -think that would be far nicer and lonelier.
:p Sorry Mar, we had rain from teatime yesterday and it went on overnight until I thought it'd make a change from your usual snow and decided to send it your way.

Hmm, seems to have picked up some bad company on its way north, this hellish wind you mention wasn't part of the plot. Sorry, pet.

Today is cloudy but brightening, I'm headachy but brightening and will prolly be up there 10 ish, gotta let things dry out a bit on the lottie as I want to shake earth outta grass clods.

I spotted a slug yesterday, sliding across the cleared ground. Cheek of the thing. First one I've seen since last autumn, but I hadn't forgotten my slug-killing mojo and showed it cold steel.

SQ, parts of my family remain an entente cordiale by the simple method of not having anything to do with each other. Most families have something similar going on, in my experience, it's not all The Waltons. Do what you need to do to preserve your emotional balance and don't allow anyone to guilt you into their way of doing things.

One classic from the clan was when my great-uncle passed away suddenly without a will. At the very graveside, when he was being added to the row of family graves alongside his parents and siblings, some gem of a rellie pipped up But he wanted to be cremated!

Yeah, well, if you come from a family where no one has ever been cremated before, you have to express this instruction before you pop off. Preferably in a Will. And the rellie could have had a bit of discretion and zipped their lip at that particular point, not having raised the issue in the two weeks between the death and the internment.

    Families, eh?

Time for some more tea. Hope everyone has a good day and that the soggy bits dry out a bit.

It's tropical monsoon here - very odd to open doors and not feel an arctic blast. It's a sweltering 12C whoohoo! I wanted to plant my leeks on the back room windowsill but the compost is outside.. and I not goin out in that without a lifebelt.

Morning Toughies. I'm reading all the interesting places to visit 'oop north' & must admit quite a few are on my bucket list - Angel of the North, Lindisfarne, Hadrians Wall. Must admit never having been further north than York (yes, I know!) & I do want to go to Glasgow (where my Nana came from) I did cross a couple of things off last year - learnt to sail a dinghy and went to a music festival (KT Tunstall - brilliant!) Just got to make sure I stay fit & healthy enough to do it all - haha
MRSLW If the uppers of your boots are leather try rubbing wax polish or preferably beeswax into the stitching. It will waterproof the stitching & plug up the little stitch holes. Might need a couple of goes. Its such a b&gger when you've paid out for things that don't live up to expectations.

Hoping for a dry day today and maybe I can get the blinking potatoes in!

    Have a good day all.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

  • AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I know it's unkind but if I turn on another news channel and hear the debate about the departed female PM I am going to throw something heavy at the screen!!!!!!!! The entire media seem to be discussing nothing but this and I am not even going to turn the TV on on Wednesday, not because I have any political views but there are some very important things going on in this world, like North Korea and Chinese Bird Flu that aren't even getting air time anymore because of this event. I know she is a national figure but where is common sense these days, it's sad when anyone dies but really - do we need this wailing and chest beating 24 hours a day? Grumpily Lyn xxx.

Ahh I wondered why softstuff wasnt posting - that explains it Nursie has her pinned to the bed force feeding her tea and symapthy :)

We had a mad day yesterday, with shopping and dance class in the morning and then Uni with DD18 in the afternoon. I totally missed my parents visit, thankfully, but OH was not impressed with their behaviour, DS14 opted to stay in his room so my mother took to standing at the bottom of the stairs shouting him to come down - have told OH that if they do it again to remind them that DS can choose not to come see them - its our house and our rules.

Uni visit wasnt much better and I have to say I am very disillusioned, DD has chosen a SEN specialism, yet the course does not address teaching SEN kids - err its a teaching course, surely it should be covered?
Then the quality of the candidates was dire, yes maybe these kids can achieve 3 As at A level, that doesnt make them teacher quality - in a group of ten, only my DD was willing to speak up and debate with the tutor or read a section aloud.
Now I get that its intimidating but surely if you cant do it how are you going to get up and lead a class? They put these kids out to school placements within four weeks of their joining the course.:eek:

If this is the future of teachers then I fear greatly for our education system, and this is considered to be one of the best teaching colleges in the country.

At one point did we stop looking at the person as a whole and simply look at grades? I see friends who are senior nurses despairing at new starters who are all top grade students but have no idea of care or people skills.

It is wet and very windy here too - I was planning a trip to Blackpool for the kids today but its so windy they wouldnt cope.

Its hard thinking of things to do that are indoors and weather proof all the time.

ETA - MRSLW - Its driving me bonkers too, have refused to watch any live TV all week as I cant cope with it, the fact is that love her or hate her, the cost of her funeral is immoral, and even more insulting we are having to suffer the endless talk of it too.
This is how I felt over my uncles funeral, there was the initial insult which was upsetting, but then there is the constant talk and endless gloating over it that pushed me over the edge.
