Lots of snow here in the West Midlands this morning, who'd have thought it on the first day of the Easter hols. Luckily we're well stocked up and don't need to go anywhere, and at least the children will get to make a snowman.

STILL snowing here, apart from a short spell yesterday it's been snowing for about 36 hours! It's fine stuff, but windy, so it's drifting in places. Got about 10" on top of the car, which won't be going anywhere today. :rotfl: The milk is on the doorstep cos the crate is so well-hidden by snow the milkman couldn't find it! I had to shovel the snow from the side door before DH went to work today - you couldn't see where the steps were and the stuff fell inside when I opened the door. :D

Apart from a walk up to the village for a few bits I've run out of, I'm staying in today, I don't "do" snow!

    Keep warm and safe everyone!

    Morning.

We have snow here, it is snowing light and fluffy and fast!!! Have to go and get petrol today, after having to travel over 80 miles on a round trip to collect OH after his accident yesterday.

We did the major part of the shopping in @ldi yesterday, managed to get the washing powder and dishwasher tablets for the month. Not tried their washing powder yet, so I hope it is ok.

I have another voucher for next week, so must go shopping Thursday as its the last day. Mum gave me a Tesco voucher, but I gave that to my DD as she always goes there. £5 makes a big difference to there shopping bill.

nutty Hope your OH is ok now after his accident?

jem - did your DH and DS get home ok after the emergency call out? the soup and food sounded wonderful - your family are lucky you are so caring.

fuddle - how are you doing after your 1st week?

stiltwalker - hope DD had a lovely birthday

peanut - hope your earache eases soon

cheapskate - sorry to hear about the drop in income. It might be tough but you will be ok - we will all help in any way we can. Have to save I'm not the best with the cooking tips etc- I am still learning from you all and picking things up as I go along but good with emotional support if anyone needs any. :)

possession - our two are in school next week, didn't realise some kids had already broken up. Have fun in the snow!

Been a bit of week here. Did my 2 day speech therapy refresher course (and met someone there who did the original course about 20 years ago which was fab). Very suprised to see 6 women, 3 men (and 1 man didn't show) as statistically only 1 in 5 adults who stammer are women. I found the days really tiring, not just the course but getting sons off to breakfast club and collecting them in the eve then coming home to everything. I can understand a little better how you full time workers with children feel.

I was a bit anxious about the childcare those days as never left the kids that long without DH around on a school day and having to rely on 3 different sources of childcare. On the 2nd day my friend phone up with the news she was waiting for an ambulance to take her poorly mum to hospital. We managed to sort out alternative arrangements between us - her son is in a different primary school - using my other friend and her wonderful SIL. Its all made me more anxious for when I do go back to work eventually - maybe formal childcare rather than friends is the answer. BTW my friend's mum is ok and out of hospital, thought she has a stroke but didn't so big relief all round.

Will post again later with other stuff as this is getting looong!

Have to share though DH passed his 5th exam paper on Wednesday - he has worked so hard for it. :j 6th paper next Thursday and then 3 more later on.

off to get dressed and make bread amongst things.

laters, keep warm everyone - we have gentle snowfall as I type

    sq:)

    Morning All,
It tried to snow all day yesterday and there was a biting wind...but it stopped around mid afternoon. Looked out the bedroom window at 4am light wet snow...suspect it has stopped again.

    Still mighty cold.

Not sure why(getting older?)my shoulder is painful and certain movements set it off. Bursitis or frozen shoulder(maybe or maybe not)I have to be careful what painkillers I use and the frequency. Then again I suppose it could be arthritis or connected to the immune system deficiency.

Managed to sleep though so that's something hopefully it will improve.

    Morning all :)

We have a light covering of snow here in Leicester at the moment, but the snow is meant to continue all day. I need to do a grocery shop at some point this weekend to stock up on chocolate eggs, food for the gannets I gave birth to and Cadburys Easter nest cakes for me. I only allow myself to eat them during the school hols otherwise I would weigh a lot more than my not inconsiderable weight. It's something about the bright yellow buttercream that brings back memories of Easters past.

I have DH ill in bed with the flu. He came down with it on Tuesday, went to work on Wednesday and then has been in bed ever since. I will be so glad when he feels better. I don't seem tobe coming down within, but I am just feeling completely shattered.

Time for lots of tea and maybe a biscuit or three.

Take care and stay safe and warm xxxx

May have some porridge and a warm meal for lunch(possibly soup seems a good idea)but yesterday as I ate my salad wholemeal rolls I realised how much I enjoy them and never tire of them.

So I may take some more out with me as I have to go out again tonight and yes I have also been eating some custard donuts too:p:o

I don't know why(and you know I don't care about best before dates on food)but I find my bread etc...does not go stale and mouldy that often even if not put in a freezer.

And now using that test where you put eggs in water and see if they rise or sink, I find my eggs are usually ok after the date on the carton so I am managing to make them last longer and am not wasting them by worrying when they go past the date.

Also when I boil an egg now I do a few so they are there to be used in a variety of ways and avoid having to keep putting the hob on un-necessarily. They are always ready for salads or sandwiches.

No snow here - but a biting wind & heavy rain. Went to put some crumbs out for the birds & my back garden is flooded in places. Hope it drains away before the next lot comes in.
Had a baking day yesterday & made a Granny Cake. Couldn't remember if you had to turn it out or let it cool in the tin so looked up the original recipe that I got from a magazine. I looked at the back out of interest & it was from Womans Realm in 1968 - the year DS1 was born ;) He's asked me to scan it & send to him. The leaflet was 'Cheap Dishes in Disguise' nothing seems to change does it.
Hope everyone has a warm & safe weekend

    Nothing changes Silvasava,
You know many on here are doing comfort food and meals from our childhood and wartime...

In the local freesheet two people have had a book/leaflet published and a donation is asked for charity.

One is a retired teacher and the other works as a Breakfast Club Assistant.

They realised how difficult Christmas was for many moneywise and decided to write a seven day cookery booklet and they have gone for post war recipes using simple ingredients and methods for meals at the lowest cost but substantial. I haven't seen it myself.
