The telemarketers usually end up chatting to my call minder, as I can never get to the phone in time and the Law of Sod dictates that half the calls I get take place when I'm away from the phone.

Now for some good news. I have a new steam generator iron arriving to review from Amazon Vine, (who send me freebies to review). The last one broke down after a couple of weeks, luckily I still had the first one I was given and that works so well but won't last forever. The RRP for the new one is £200. Wow.
Also coming, a new microfibre mop. Again a RRP that made me go "Wow", over £40.
Pops, lovely to see you briefly today and I'm so pleased with all the good news you had to share.
I am very, very pleased with the lovely non-slip bathmat I got from A!di today. A lovely velour-like nap, with a memory foam filling and a very secure non-slip backing. Machine washable at 30 deg. too. Mine is deep blue, other colours were white, cream, beige, light blue and deep red.

Anyone familiar with this hilarious recording. An American telemarketer meets much more than his match

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYDpjWCPeU8

    Oh to be that quick-witted
:rotfl::rotfl: Everyone, you HAVE to listen to that, I'm crying with laughter. Gonna email that linkie to the parentals.

I work in a call centre and you'd never believe the kind of calls the public make to us. We take them and we don't believe them half the time, even with the recording as evidence. I shall be seeing if I'm clever enough to come up with an Angliscised version of that call to deploy if I answer the phone to telemarketeers at the parents' place next time I visit.

Hmmmm, what could I do that would be mad but plausible........?

    Ok I'm confused!

Just did an entitled to check for when I return to work later in the year. Looks like we'll be entitled to about £33 of child tax credit a week (£42 Childcare costs).

But I had a play and if I put him in nursery for 3 days (£146 a week) we'd get housing benefit too? (Aswell as £90 a week child tax benefit)

How does higher Childcare costs mean you get housing benefit? Confused!

    Hi,

Childcare costs (up to a certain amount which I can't remember off the top of my head) are taken into account when you're assessed for housing benefit, if you're a working couple or single working parent. So you'd be assessed on less income than you'd actually have coming in, because the £146 would be knocked off your income for the purpose of the assessment.

    Hope this makes sense :)

I tried a new tack on the phone last night.
I answered the phone with 'Hello' in a flat monotone.
    Caller 'Is that Mrs Julie'
Me 'This is a recorded message, if you are not a family member your call will not be answered so please hang up'
    He did!

    Morning all,
    Talking of unwanted calls.

Sad in one way but as I am alone and landline is just for the internet I rarely answer the phone and often have it on silent.

Lovely to see you too mcculloch29 and a familiar face, just a few words makes all the difference to my day:)

Someone was walking out of Aldi's with scales that work out your BMI as well as weight, was tempted but couldn't find any and I managed to do that online in seconds for nothing and as the Consultant is happy he said though they are ok a blood pressure machine is un-necessary too.

Though I do take BP tablets...and my Dr's surgery will take it whenever I wish.

    Saved money too.

Forgot to ask how the cholestorel is. It was high once but that could be due to meds as my diet is mainly veg, fruit, cereal etc...I assume it was OK as it was not mentioned.

Could ask at the surgery I suppose but I may cause something else to worry over.

Going to have a bowl of cereal and fruit, toast and marmite and a mug of tea...that's quite good by my standards...

I say I saved money yesterday it helped having a little spare cash and a £10 voucher.

I came home with tomatoes, spring onions, cabbage, cucumber, onions, shallots, swede, carrots, parsnips, leeks, spinach, watercress, rocket and mixed leaves. Better quality sausages(half price)unsmoked streaky bacon, eggs, bananas, custard dougnuts, some crisps(Canadian Ham/Salt and Vinegar)again saved £1.

Various cup a soups that had been reduced and offer a quick snack(Broccoli and Cauliflower, Tomato and Basil, Minestrone, Chicken and Vegetable, Mushroom)Twenty sachets in total. And a Bloomer loaf of bread.

I get shocked by the cost but if strteched and mixed with what else is in the house perhaps it is not as bad as it first seems. With the voucher taken away I spent around £13. Is that good value do you think?

Morning all, it's quite snowy here, cold and windy, and all the schools are closed. Will have to get togged up to pop down to mum's, but it's only a few minutes walk, even in this weather, then will be staying in all day. There are loads of jobs to do, so having an enforced day in will allow be to crack on a bit. No power cuts or brown-outs here, thankfully, but got the candles and blankets ready in case.

The sort of nuisance calls we get are those where an Asian-sounding chap, who goes by the name of Andrew-Nigel-Simon, etc (yeah, right!) asks for one of us, in order to check the details of our recent car accident, PPI claim or whatever. Can never interrupt them, they're going to finish their script come hell or high water, so I tend to just hang up, but I love all those fantastic ideas for blowing them out of the water! :rotfl:

Well, we're now officially on a very low income, but in one way it's good for us, as I can get my brain working again, re better deals on all sorts - I like a challenge! Remind me I said this when I start moaning about having no cash! :rotfl:

Hope you're all warm enough in this pants weather, hugs to those under the weather for other reasons, too! :grouphug: Keep safe and have some of my freshly brewed coffee (found some ground lurking in the fridge!) :coffee:
