Fuddle - I understand that totally, this year the car failed its MOT and I havent stressed over it at all. I planned for it in advance and its wonderful to not have the panic of finding money.
I will be stressed by Monday as our mechanic is not able to do it this weekend and OH was supposed to be trying to go back to work Monday - no car means no way.
Let me share my most money saving tip this year - last year as with almost every other year my little car failed its MOT on its emissions and once again required a catalytic convertor. (design issue) So last year when we priced up the costs at various places, our mechanic could do it cheapest for £100, but Kw!kF!t wanted £120. I paid the £120 - for that I got a warranty of one year, so when the car failed its MOT this year on the same thing it was still in warranty(just) and has been replaced for free. That was the plan and it worked beautifully - but heres the bonus, the man now says we have a new 12month warranty so as long as I MOT before DD7 birthday next year they will replace it once again!!
I have been so busy today, have managed 60 cupcakes, 120 brownies, 60 jellies and 48 muffins for tomorrows party. I am now facing icing the cupcakes and I have printed icing decorations to go on them - but have no idea what type of icing to use underneath, does anyone have any experience of this??0 -

Evening all. Am pie-eyed with fatigue and it is persisting down outside. Have been taking Jiffy trolley to le supermarche and stocking up. Oh how I love my trolley and how I love it that they are so commonplace, even in the hands of younger women, that I don't feel a numptie.
Fuddle, three thoughts; claim off your council's insurance for the damage to your car, I think your scarf is curling because your tension is too tight and it's better to tear leaves off the cut-and-come again lettuces as the knife causes bruising and browning.
You can treat any lettuce like this but it is easier with the loose leaf varieties. Try a floozie called Lollo Rosso which is burgundy and named after the film star Gina Lollobrigida.
I have discovered something interesting in the field, as it were; sow green lettuce and green cabbage side by side with red lettuce and red cabbage and slugs prefer the green varieties. Dunno why, but it is so.
OK, gotta rush sort supper. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

great bargains cheapskate! What a fab butcher you have!
I might pop to M&S to get their M Day meal as we are having 2 of ours round on Sunday with their partners. I like to have family round the table on Mothers Day and never fancy going out. I had thought of buffet easy type lunch this year but a large chicken sounds tempting!

Fuddle - always knit the first 5 sts at each end of every row, don't purl them. That will make a stiffer border that doesn't curl.0

I know you ladies would be able to help me out, pleased I popped back for the lettuce, knitting and autistic slug chat
I best go unravel my scarf then.
We had the valentines M&S meal for 2 for £10 (it's where that red wine came from, oh heck best go pour a glass I ni on forgot ) and it was really nice. I'd but it again on a speci occasion. Do you know what I've bought my mam for Mother's Day? Tesc0's cheaper make of baileys Irish cream. She'll love it and will love making baileys coffee etc but I feel terrible seeing as I'm concerned with her drinking. Not the most conventional of presents is it? I don't think we have the most conventional relationship though. I see her tomorrow, she's coming here. I bet we have a baileys coffee before lunch.0 -
I'm really lucky in my butcher, sort of a meat version of GQ's Magic Greengrocer, if you like!
Dreading the day he retires, he's not had a whisper of interest in his business and it's been on the market 2 years.
He's really old skool, makes his own sausages and burgers, knows how to cook every single thing he sells, impossible to replace.
The bacon will be 1) to go with jacket spuds and beans tomorrow 2) some for soup 3) last little scraps for pasta sauce MRSLW - not bad for a squid!
Sis and I had to chuck some food out of mum's fridge today (memory issues leading her to overbuy and forget!) - 3 packs of cauli/broccoli, small swede, pack of SM bacon (1 month OOD and very grey _pale_), 3 mouldy baking spuds, all other veg actually mouldy - wasted about £8-9, so sinful! We're going to vet her fridge more often to stop more waste, poor love.

It's quite extraordinary, isn't it? They're all over the place. I've noticed that it's now old lady stylee to have 4-wheeled trollies whereas young women (and middle aged broads like moi) favour the racy two wheeled models in snazzy designs.
Very sensibubble, IMO, gorilla arms are great on gorillas but not so great on us ladies. It is only a matter of time before a formation trolley-dancing team is formed. I have seen formation wheelbarrowing before (very very funny) so it could be a winner.
Heck, the price they want for petrol and diesel these days, we'll all be trolleying around, knitting our own museli and making jumpers out of porridge.............
Ummmm, my memories of the early seventies are a little bit muddled as was an ankle-biter back then. Has anyone sighted a macrame comeback?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
