I hope that Mr Pooky is soon feeling better, I keep thinking I have my cold beaten then it starts off again. May have to give in and take some paracetemols. Later a hot toddy sounds a good idea, may add some honey or do my HM version of Lemsip. I have tried to avoid all these things and try and let it get better in it's own time.
I don't mind the cold as such but when the cough starts especially through the night:mad:It might be easier to stay up rather than trying to go to bed."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Your fish cakes sound nice, Popperwell, and if you use roughly half and half fish and potato, with small amounts of the other ingredients plus seasoning, you should get the balance about right. One life - your life - live it!0

Thank you for the help Nargleblast. They should be reasonably easy, don't know if they are cheaper than the two I saw in Morrisons(similar)costing £2 but as I have all the ingredients, they can't be difficult to make.
Its good to keep an interest in things...there was a programme on Radio 4 yesterday(repeated today)can be listened to online or downloaded. The Food Programme.
It was asking if the three meals a day(sitting at a table with family)at set times and whether it is no longer seen as important and whether we all snack or graze during the day.
There are many reasons why this may be true(I haven't heard it yet)Work times, limited income, people living alone without family. But also people are not necessarily eating bad food but may be eating smaller portions for a variety of reasons.
Some days I snack and pick on at food, other times I eat two small meals or one meal. I do try though to eat "Good" food even if it is reduced/on offer as it usually is.
I was talking to my one living relative on the phone tonight(who I always think of as being reasonably well off)he was sitting in the living room and wearing a woollen hat indoors. We got talking and he said he often just has one meal a day.
A meal with family may be nice but I quite like the idea of eating when I feel hungry or at times that suit me.
My grazing would probably be fruit or a sandwich/salad rarely biscuits. It is quite easy to get the right amount of calories and the amount of fruit and veg that we should.
I'm going to try and get a bit more adventurous with my sandwiches too. I tend to stick to the same fillings and I could do so much more. I could even get back to using the sandwich toaster that has been unused for years.:)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Even if money was no object I cannot imagine paying £10 for salmon so getting it for £1.05 is some saving(there was some on offer but that has finished now)a bag of frozen salmon for £5(no room in the freezer)they are back to £10. That's why I bought two whilst they were reduced.
Another idea could be to add some flaked salmon to scrambled eggs...an excuse to use up some eggs...I don't waste much food and more than ever it is a crime when you do with times being difficult but the two things I seem to struggle getting through are eggs and fruit.
Only because I eat so little and cannot always decide what I fancy until the day."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

My pooter now has a new fan. Took the Wiz about 5 mins to fit and then we spent a coupla hours + hanging out having a laff.
He vac'd the dust out of the PC tower and totally refused to vacuum the rest of the flat for me!
Honestly, what is it with men and housework? I know he doesn't live here and we sometimes don't see each other from one year to another, but as he'd got the vac out he coulda finished the chores.........:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

The dust that gets into a PC:eek:
I've had to give in and drag myself to SM again to get some sweets to ease my throat(I hope)some lemonade to make some HM Lemsip. I was so tired walking back.
I may stay up overnight as I seem to cough less and I can sleep during the day when the neighbours are out.
I got some more items at the CS today a black woollen jumper and a thicker than usual cotton shirt, for the two I spent £1.98.
I could feel it getting much colder outside when I went to the SM so perhaps we'll have some frost by morning."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Thank you so much for the thought, but sadly I don't have a compost caddy. I have been under the couch (oh dear lord that's an experience, I must clean under there more often!)
Behind the fridge, another yuk place, in drawers, cupboards and furtled in furtlings I didn't know I had..
It has been and gone to knife heaven.0 -
I know just how you feel. Yesterday the handle snapped off my "little brown knife" (which us what my mum always called the vegetable preparation knife - mine actually had a black handle :rotfl:) I feel like the end of the world has come.
Oh my!!!, that's worse than losing it, I still have hope, hope that it may return from whence it went. But BROKEN! no, all hope is gone:(0 -
I've had a call from energy supplier who left a message on the school run. So mad. She informed me she had given the appropriate information to my original query and was unable to help me with regards to items that do not appear on my account. I'm not the type of person to call back shouting the odds but will be walking away from the company when I get the community auction info through. Something went on, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to find out what.
Going to try a smoothie in the whizzy thing. Wondering whether to add some oats for thickness. Still a sore throat and didn't sleep well but ok and going to get on with housework.
Could do with some sun actually and to get away from JCB's digging over te fence!
DH told me thy the lottery is going up to £2 a ticket after the summer. We put one line on each Saturdy, just to be in it to win it, but there's no way I'm paying £100 a year to pay the lottery. Ill up my savings direct debit instead
Is it possible to be money saving without turning into 'a miserly everyone is out to get your money and will screw you over so you have to fight the boogars' kind of person. I'm getting really bitter in my increasing years.0 -
Fuddle, my own life experience (almost 20 years older than you) is that character goes through cycles, not a smooth progression from innocent childhood to bitter and cynical old age.
I was a very cynical teen, that reduced in my twenties and thirties and now with the big five-oh my next significant birthday I'm fairly laconic, a touch cynical and getting increasingly exasperated by general-purpose idiocy, one thing sadly not subject to cutbacks.
A typical morning will see me put Radio 4 on for the news at the top of the hour then turn it off just past 8.10 when they do "the big interview" and you get some knowitall presenter going 10 rounds with some knowitall politico.
Yesterday, as they were ranting over each other, both trying to shout each other down, I had a vision of two stags in a forest clashing antlers. I've come across a pithy phrase for this kind of behaviour in American novels; a p i s s ing contest.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
