I might have a look at the "takeaway" recipe book. Perhaps we should start a new recipe a month. I am trying to encourage nearly 14 year old DS into learning to cook - maybe I will get him to choose something.
The Takeaway Secret book is a good investment. The recipes are pretty easy. Our favourite is the HM kebab and kebab sauce. We've made it with lamb mince as the recipe suggests but also pork mince and turkey mince.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I think this afternoon I'll tidy the kitchen (its the tidiest in the house), then clean the downstairs toilet and start tidying the living room. At least if I make a dent in it I'll feel happier. The worst rooms in the house are the spare room and my office. The spare room has become a dumping ground for clean clothes and my office resembles that episode of Friends .... Monica's secret cupboard! But at least I can focus now.
Just had a mug of green tea and 2 (yes naughty I know) cherry scones and butter to celebrate.
Just a thought. Does anyone else get like this that the housework etc just piles up when you are stressing about other things?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. soo pleased for you Unixgirl. Is there a possibility it will lead to anything permanent? Or that the agency will find you something now they know you?It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Oh yes, I have recently mucked out the house as I was in limbo land about various stuff. NOTHING constructive got done at all.
Then I got the lurg and so have been quietly residing on the sofa with plenty of paracetamol and tea (or hot blackcurrant) and the house still looks tidy, apart from the waterfall of washing ... am on attack mode with that one now too.
UNIXGIRLUK - Thank goodness for the good news, hope the job goes well. Don't forget if you have to invoice as in be self employed you will need to tell HMRC .... and save some of the money to pay the tax bill ..... and you don't need a company at all to do invoice just be prepared to invoice them on "headed paper" i.e. your name and address where official correspondence goes too (keep copies of all invoices with dates of payments and all receipts for costs incurred e.g. petrol, parking, equipment, etc) and make sure you pay your Class II NIC (done monthly about £13.25 PCM also via HMRC as this will be instead of PAYE NIC .
Worth having a little look on the HMRC web site and reading their self employed guide. Plus then you won't get stung for any charges the agency will make under this "umbrella organization" scheme
VJsMum - how about tuna fish lasagne? Wont' work for vegetabilarians but a nice change?

Fantastic news Unixgirl!! Well done!
Spent this morning weather-proofing the new rabbit hutch - fingers crossed just in time before the snow started. It's been snowing here about 3 hours but none has settled so far so I think we'll be OK.0 -

Thanks for that. Because of what I do (IT as my name suggests) we can't be self-employed it either ltd company or umbrella. The government changed the rules for IT workers a few years ago. I think for this contract I will probably use an umbrella company as easier. The tarot stuff I do is done as self-employed and I keep that separate. I did get caught out as I didn't have a lot put by as I didn't work between may and august last year then out of work again last month and this month.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Oh that is GOOD NEWS Unixgirl, wonderful! It's so much easier to find a job when you are in a job, so hopefully you will land a further contract in the next three months.
Some good advice given on self-employment so I won't add.
Our snow is settling, but not a deep covering as yet.
I'm going to try Red Dragon Pie (I have to, I'm Welsh), thank you for the recipe, Katie.
I had pancakes for breakfast as I was ill yesterday and they didn't get made (I'm much better today). Lashings of juice from a microwaved lemon, along with proper Canadian maple syrup. Yummy. I often made pancakes for 'afters' when I was childminding, inevitably the children would say 'But it's not Pancake Day!'
No, but it's 'Dirt-cheap -dessert -that - everyone - enjoys day..'Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
