Don't mind if I do GW - hic!
Snow still coming down - maybe 2 inches now - doesn't look like we'll be going to Clitheroe tomorrow! Ah well, the exhibition is up fo a month I think. Just hoping Mr T can get through with the shopping as DS (AKA guzzle guts) has wellied his way through most of the milk! If not - well it's only a couple of miles, 'll just put my boots and rucksac on and go and get some. Actually that sounds quite fun I could go all on my owm and have some lovely peace and quiet while DH stays home and entertains the kids!0 -
fingers crossed missy
welcome whistling gypsy
mrs vg that is truly shocking, even the mention of medication is sickening. They are obviously ignorant and have no idea what they are talking about.
A number of years ago the a teacher asked me to put ds1 on ritalin, i asked why and they said well obviously he has adhd and it will help him calm down. I told them all in uncertain terms that
a) my son does not need mediation and
b) he hasn't even been assessed for it.Same thing happened in Y3 with ds2 and apparently he needed it to as he doesn't concentrate. Put it this way i mentioned it to the educational psychologist and she went berserk saying teachers had no right to state a child had a medical condition.
Never had a problem since, week regarding medication anymore.
Fuddle - there's a boyes in stockton behind the high street. you can park for free on skinner street for 2 hours. They is also one in boro, stokesley and guisborough. You can tell we shop in there a lot.
Oh and if you look in the bargain bins you can get loads of material and bits and bobs for 10p. We always look in boyes and the charity shops, especially in the villages and stockton. You can allways find really nice clothes and the mind shop is dirt cheap.
The snows back, yay, we, well i, did more sorting out today, another two bags gone. Where did all this junk come from.Worst thing is we still have loads to go through:eek:Took the lads to a autism social group today costs £5 but at least they safe. They just played warhammer whilst i read. I was going to leave them but ds2 got a bit frightened. The group is run by professional specially trained staff who work specifically with children with autism or asd . Parents don't have to stay but are welcome to.Its quite expensive but at least it entertains them.0 -
DD1 got the job! Woohoo. Great confidence booster for her as her last manager really talked her up. New manager has promised lots of overtime and training and is happy to work her shifts around college and volunteer work. She starts Sunday.
@tos assessor came on Wednesday to see DH, didn't have any recording equipment with her so she apologised and left. You know this tin in the picture
can you buy them? They remind me of war time images. They'd be fabulous for my crumbles and pasta bakes.Whistling_Gypsy wrote: »:jHello y'all - pleased to meetcha. I'm Whistling Gypsy and I can be Very Shallow. I read this and the SHTF thread every day - I feel like I know most of you already and have laughed and cried with you all over the months and years, so thank you from a serial lurker
It's raining here and believe me, that's the understatement of the year. We're no longer at risk of bushfire, but now we're on flood alert :rotfl: Monsoon has started and even though the ground is dry this is *a lot* of rain. Remind me again why this is paradise? :rotfl:
Looks like my !!! is glued to the sofa for the weekend too, which is a shame as I was looking forward to at least driving somewhere different to look at.
I'm supposed to peel my tape off my knee in a minute, so if you hear the scream from there, don't worry.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I want to know why children didn't have all this AHD and AS and all the rest of it - in the 40s /50s and 60s. I was in big classes in primary and we never had any nonsense, everybody behaved. Is this coming from pollution and additives in food...0

Morning All,
I don't want to upset anyone...ignorance doesn't help on my part but Mar might have a point. Then again perhaps it was hidden from the masses as such sufferers of said conditions were kept at home or in places?
And I have heard of various theories and ideas for it and yes that includes additives in food...I'm not clever enough or as informed as I should be. Perhaps we just talk about things much more there days and it is not hidden away."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
"Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in" ~ Alan Alda0 -
Mar did you see any children with special needs in your school back then? Nowadays it's very much about inclusion and adapting to each individual child's needs. There are not as many specialist units about now, children, on the whole, are educated together.
I know when I was at school in the 80's the children with needs were segregated completely. They went to special school, us 'normal' children went to mainstream school. EDit: I should also add I went back to work in the same school I attended in 1999. I was the first support assistant then so inclusion is only really 15 years old in that respect.
Also when I went to school, many, many things were not diagnosed. A vast majority of children back then would have been dyslexic etc without knowing about it. DH is one of these. He didn't get his diagnoses til last year at the age of 35.
I would dare say there were 'naughty' children or children with special needs in your day but they were segregated. What do you think? could that be possible?
We don't really know what causes ADHD other than a mix of genetics (brain functioning difficulty in carrying messages), toxins in pregnancy (drinking alcohol) even very low birth weight or premature babies. It's not about naughty children or bad parenting. There is no cure for it and certainly not learned behaviour.0 -
I found this as I was looking for enamel dishes.0

Morning all and welcome whistling Gypsy! I too enjoy making home made wine but sadly only from a box kit about every six months. I dont drink a lot so even going halves with my ex and then sharing with my family it takes me six months to work my way through 15 bottles.
i am so shocked at the idea of putting children on medication just because the medication exists! Its not a cure and what someone said about it changing the childs personality is so true. I have seen a child i knew who was a bright sparky personality turn into a zombie after being put on that stuff. Horrendous.
Today is tidy the cesspit of doom otherwise known as my home day. I also have to go out with my dad to buy a folding bed as little brother has been spending lots of time here and sleeping on the sofa is not good for him (or the sofa but we wont mention that). Little brother is very needy and needs lots of reassurance lately so yesterday i reminded him of the saying 'you can pick your friends but you cant pick your family'.
theni told him that even if he wasnt family i would pick him for a friend because he is such a lovely lad. A bit (ok a lot:rotfl:) emabarrassing for him as he is only 14 and teenage boys dont do emotion but he needed to hear it. I hope it helps him.0 -

That's what I was getting at, I just wasn't brave enough to describe it. I'll stick up for the drug though when it enables a child to cope. If it's right for the child, needed by the child in order to cope with daily life then it's a godsend but not what is right for the teaching staff
Righto, we have snow and are about to go play. I fancy getting Alfie to pull me down the hillS'not cruel - he loves it. He went all husky like in the summer atop of Roseberry Topping

missrlr hope your phone call goes well.
The sun is shining beautifully and the snow is starting to melt.
DD had a broken nights sleep as she could not get her arm and shoulder comfortable.
A widower friend of ours has asked us to go to his house tomorrow for a take away but we went out for a celebration meal on Thursday and cannot really afford it especially as now I need to pay for a CRB check for the new job. I know he does not do a home cooked Sunday roast anymore so I am thinking of inviting him here for a meal instead, This will cost me nothing extra as I already have everything in.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
